Guest guest
Thanks, I don't want to feel like I am on a diet, that is surest way for me to binge. I am having a hard time at 1800 I am so hungry all the time...I may follow in you footsteps and stick closer to 1000 calories. With exercise that might be okay. I don't weigh other than once a month now at Curves - it was driving me crazy and I'd get on it daily.... not good. Keep up the good work, glad dh is supportive!! Guest guest
I have to agree with Dacia. I think it's great that your husband wants to be supportive and coach you but my $.02 is that you may want to use this loop or connect with someone else to share your food journal with. I think it's important to be kind to yourself without guilt or shame. It could get hairy having someone so close to you policing your food. This can be tough stuff and we've all been there. In fact some of us are still here. Let us help and support you. Maybe hubby could participate in exercise with you and keep connected that way? Either way, I'm glad you're here. Guest guest
I personally disagree. I would love to have someone help me stay on plan with my eating with one exception. That they are constructive and not mean about it. If your hubby is willing to be supportive and look at your eating and offer suggestions. And talk you out of eating stuff you shouldn't be then I say more power to you. I wish I had that. Now if he is gonna look at your journal and call you fat and say you're always gonna be fat eating like that then to me that's not constructive. I wouldn't want him "helping me" But having someone there to say Honey....you fell off plan here. Lets go shopping and find some good alternatives to this that is lower in calories or look, this day you went over calories. I think what triggered you was"this" and let me help you by"that" kind of thing then I personally think you have great help and should take full advantage of it. We are still here regardless of how much support you have at home. But my personal opinion is get the support from wherever or whoever you can. As long as it IS supportive and not just someone constantly nagging and ridiculing you. If your husband is truly supportive, Go for it. Have him help as much as possible. If after a while it's not working then do it without his support. I'm sure he will tell you things you really don't want to hear but he wouldn't be helping if he didn't tell you those things. But the key to it all is if he will do it in the right way that will make you feel good about this and not want to toss in the towel. Good Luck in however you decide to go. But either way, you know we are here for you too! Re: Re: New here. I have to agree with Dacia. Guest guest
What I ment was it is no longer a fight. You will no longer crave the bad stuff. You will not even think about it. It will just be a way of life. I have been eating healthy for about 7 months and sometimes its still a struggle and I fall off the wagon, but you just have to climb back on and go forward. Don't give up. Some days are harder than others, but you can do it. Sharonbrgk44 <brgk44@...> wrote: Oh my gosh, Sharon--that long?! I've always read that it takes 3weeks to break habits or form new ones. But it took me about 4-6weeks to really get into the groove of exercising. As for the eatingportion of my plan...well, there are days when I sail through and dayswhen I have to fight to stay on plan. And I still think that (mostdays) I'm one tragedy away from gaining it all back. For instance, adeath in the family...which is inevitable. But I just don't know thatI have *that* good a hold on my emotional eating. I can control itday to day 99% of the time (pretty darn good considering the years ofabsolutely no control and overeating daily), but for how long? That'swhat scares me. I'm going to have to be careful every single day ofmy life if I want to keep it off. Which means even when in verystressful situations, I'm going to have to stay aware of my eatinghabits and that's not always easy to do. Guess I'll cross that bridgewhen I get to it and hope I still have some ladies on this group tohelp me stay on track -Bonnie> I have been told that living a healthy easting life style has to bedone for 1-1/2 years for it to be habitual, or a way of life for life. You can do this. Guest guest
> I got thin the first time by only eating every 2-3 dayd, but he won't let me skip meals now. Smart husband - listen to him! > I just can't see how I am going to get it off and eat too. You'll do it one step at a time. Why not look over the information for ' Foodmover http://members.tripod.com/sue_in_nj/fm.htm or even the US government's Food Pyramid http://www.mypyramid.gov to see how many calories you should be eating every day and how many portions of which foods to equal those calories. Drink your water - aim for a total of a half ounce for every pound you weigh, but get a *minimum* of 8, 8-ounce glasses in, more on hot days when you're sweaty. Move a bit more than you are now. Walk a bit more, buy some hand weights and do some toning exercises - check your library for books or videos to help. Do more outside (out of the house, at least) activities that get you moving, like bowling, swimming, bike riding. If you think it might help, keep a food and exercise journal for a few weeks and mark down everything that passes through your lips. That will help you see when you're the hungriest, what foods kept you not hungry the longest, what foods brought the hunger raging back the soonest. You may find that things like white flour bread and pasta only hold you for an hour or so, but whole wheat versions hold your longer, or that you get full fast on baked potatoes but can eat rice like there's no tomorrow. Use your journal and the food/calorie recommendations to plan your meals. If you know you can't live until dinner without a snack at 3pm, plan a healthy snack for that time. If you know you're not a breakfast person, skip it, but make sure you get at least 3 meals in during the rest of the day. And eat all the foods and calories you are allowed. When you *don't* eat, your body goes into starvation mode and retains as many calories as you put into it and you'll wind up gaining weight on very low caloric intakes. A person needs a minimum of 1200 - 1400 calories a day just for normal bodily functions, and if you go below that it cannibalizes itself by burning off the muscles and even brain tissue. We women have it worse than men, as our bodies also hate to give up fat because that's where our estrogen is stored. Starving ourselves is not going to work. Oh, if we go without food long enough we'll eventually get a bit thinner, but we won't be healthy, and when we start eating again the weight will come back on even faster, plus an additional 20% as a cushion against the *next* period of starvation. So, welcome to the list - as you see it gets a bit busy at times. Look over the Links and Files section for loads of good info and plenty of low-cal recipes, and good luck on your journey. Guest guest
> How do you know if you are sedentary or active? If you're working in an office or a bon-bon eating couch potato and don't move out of your chair for hours at a time, you're sedentary. If you're constantly running around after 2 toddlers, with or without a regular exercise plan, you're active. LOL > What is WATP? Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds videos. http://www.lesliesansone.com She has all different lengths (most 1-mile videos are between 12 and 20 minutes, depending on the series) and fitness levels (WATP is one of the easiest, but she also has some that really get down and dirty and builds muscle as well as make you sweat). I have about 6 of her 1-mile videos and a handful of 2-mile ones, as well as her 1 1/2 mile audio cd that I use when walking outdoors or on the treadmill. >I need to break out my Sweatin' to the Oldies so Oldies but goodies! LOL I could rarely, even when they first came out over 20 years ago, do the entire Sweatin' videos, so I just do the first few songs until it gets too fast, then walk in place and fast forward the tape until I get to the last few songs, when it slows down again. Depending on how many songs you skip, you can make yourself a nice 15 to 30 minute workout and not kill yourself. And your kids will *love* ! Guest guest
Thanks This is all really new to me so I really dont know that much about it. I have to leave in the hands of the doctor and hope for the best. I most likely will have alot more questions for the doctor before the end of the month.
