Guest guest
I've just learned of this from the Home School Legal Defense Association: http://www.hslda.org/hs/state/va/201002240.asp This is apparently the first law of its kind in the nation that requires "homeschooled children be treated fairly when there is a public health emergency and vaccine is in limited supply." I've looked into it a little bit (but I'm sure there are many of you here who may have access to much more than what I'm able to drum up). This is something I've found: http://www.vahomeschoolers.org/legislative/2010_01_26.asp Dated 26 January, 2010, this says that the Organization of Virginia Homeschoolers supports this bill, yet also mentions that the bill was crafted w/o the input of the Virginia Dep't of Health or the homeschooling community. The VDOH feels this bill is not necessary because of emergency vaccination plans already in place. (There is a link on this page listing the current Virginia vaccination policies pertaining to homeschoolers.) All I can say is, the more ways they find to stick their fingers into our personal lives, the more regulations they're going to be able to make over them. They'll spend the ink to write down things like, "parents must give consent to participate"-- but, in writing it down, it only gives them power to remove provisions like this later. I think this is really setting yet another very dangerous precedent. - Lemmon
