Guest guest
Howdy. I just happened upon this group discussion, and it seems like a very good place to chat. I don't have Hep C (although I know several people who do), but I did recently have medication induced acute hepatitis. It wasn't good. Fortunately I was only sick for about a month (actually, I'm still not all that well, but doing much better, my ALT and AST are coming way down, as is my biliruben). So, the point of this post is simply this: is anybody out there familiar with hepatitis induced by Vioxx? If you haven't heard of it, it's a NSAID, very popular these days. Celebrex and Vioxx are supposed to be the new wave of pain relief, but obviously it didn't do great things for me. How common is this? According to the Merck website, less than 1% of patients get to the level of toxicity that I did, but I'm curious if there are more than that out there. And if anybody is familiar with this problem, what were the long-term side-effects? Perhaps that cannot be defined since Vioxx was only approved a couple of years ago by the FDA. I still don't know if I have permanent liver damage, not to mention what it has done to my kidneys. Please, any info. would be helpful.
