Guest guest
Dear Carey, I've been away and am just now going through the 180+ messages I found, so perhaps I will find later on that what I am about to say has already been said by someone else. However, I wanted to ask you if you've seen a specialist or have considered a surgical solution to your problem. It might be worth it to see a Scoliosis Research Society specialist since they've had so much experience with the rods - at least hear another voice before resigning yourself to painkillers - they may be the only option, but I'd at least talk to a couple of surgeons. I know that Dr. Bridwell in St. Louis has experience with non-scoliotics who have instrumentation (read a case report of his on someone who'd had an accident and had developed flatback as a result of the instrumentation and they resolved it with an osteotomy). In any case, good luck. And go easy on yourself, please, that's the most important thing - to take care of yourself. Guest guest
Dear , Thank you so much for your response. I feel I may have to figure out a way to see a Scoli-Flatback specialist. I live in an area of moderate population we have some excellent physicians but none have ever seen anything like this. I even went to OHSU " where the experts are " and that Doctor told me I was only the second person in his career he had every seen with this problem, referring to the cyst in my back. He was an excellent Doc spent alot of time, but only thing he could offer was his amazment that I was do as well as I was. I cried the entire 3 hour trip home. I just was on Methadone 13 days into my feet started swelling real bad, throwing up several days in row, drinking tons of water but couldnt pee just sweat it out, kept getting more and more mentaly foggy. Saw my regular doc he ran lot's of blood work etc. Turns out my liver enzymns were WAY up. That answers that. So they took me off Methadone, Now I have to have more test done to see how damaged my liver is from all the meds I've taken in the past. My current Doctor (only had him for a few months) never ran any bloodwork, and I had been on very high doses of Naprosyn, Tegretol and Arthotech. At least now I know why I keep having such severe reactions to medications. I'll keep ya posted as to the out come of all this. Thanks so much for the support, Carey > Dear Carey, > I've been away and am just now going through the 180+ messages I > found, so perhaps I will find later on that what I am about to say has > already been said by someone else. Guest guest
Hi Carey, Lots of good questions kiddo. Looking back to the beginning I could see signs of health problems a year and a half after implant but never thought it was connected to the implants and doctors didn't either. It took me 13 years to get smart and have them removed. Here's what I believe....Any foreign object in the human body is going to eventually cause trouble in some way because our immune system is designed to get rid of the offending object. If the body doesn't react violently in the beginning to tell you somethings wrong in Denmark, it will definately tell you in time because of the ongoing struggle to rid the foreigners from our system. The ongoing battle alone will eventually cause wear and tear on other functions of the body. So, to answer your question, I believe you can get sick at any given time with implants whether it be one year or twenty years. It just depends on your body, perhaps how strong your immune system is/was before augmentation helps to determine if you will notice immediate reactions or much slower and subtle ones. Hope this helps. Jackie ----- Original Message ----- From: cjheer@... Sent: Sunday, September 02, 2001 7:42 AM Subject: Myabe if I rephrase my question some one can tell me What is the average time that most of you on this site got sick from your implants? Do you believe that after 6 or even 8 years women can still get ill or do most of you believe that if you don't get sick right off then you most likely won't ever get ill. A highly reputable Dr told someone I know that if she had not gotten ill after 6 years chances were she never would, I am wondering if that is pretty much the case.If it is then it would seem that some women, like allot of women are in fact able to have implants without getting ill like we have and that maybe there is something in certain individuals that causes illness and others don't have the problem. If there were a way to test before hand who is succseptable and who isn't I guess implants could still be used safely.I would love some opinons and responses here
