My 'itching' seemed to itch from the inside out! My wonderful internist &

neurologist said it was most likely from peripheral neuropathy ---

endocrinologist tended to agree! When I had that, I also had this feeling

like " snakes (not worms) slowly crawling around in my legs --- honestly!

Hi again Mariella,

My hairdresser (of 20+ years) says Rogaine for women normally works well, if

you once had thicker hair, and have recently lost hair. If the hair war

really never very thick hair, then it will never make it thicker than if

originally was. Protein & hormones do defintely effect hair growth, so you

probably should start drinking some kind of protein (preferably " soy

protein " ) several times a day, try to get your hormones in balance, and hit

the Rogaine (only as directed).

I lose hair when I have a serious 'lupus flare', and normally just drinking

plenty of soy protein will thicken my hair back to normal within a few

weeks. I have (fortunately) Never had to resort to Rogaine. If I run out

of hormone patches for more than a couple of days, I take the maximum daily

dosage of DHEA.

Hope this is helpful!

Blessings,

Martha,

I also had the strange feeling in my legs--not quite so bad as the feeling

of snakes, but I had alot of twitching and also crawly feelings. Thank

God, that is all gone now! I guess that means the nerves can heal??? I

believe the body is continually renewing living tissues, including nerves.

I never had crawly feelings but I had numbness and tingling and just

a weakness in my legs that made them feel they would just buckle

under me at times, of course they never did. Yes I too feel nerves

can heal I wish I new what would help them the most though besides

vitamin B12 I am not sure any ideas?

I do know that the myelin sheaths surrounding the nerves is made up of fats,

so it is important to get all the necessary fats--the Omega-3's and

Omega-6's for proper nerve conduction. I do think silicone has a

deleterious effect on our lipids. Omega 6 fatty acids can be found in flax

oil, borage oil, evening primrose oil, hemp oil, and Omega 3 in cod liver

oil and other fish oils, as well as deep ocean fatty fish, such as salmon,

mackerel, cod and halibut. Supplementing these oils is highly recommended

for us!

You may also want to consider taking lecithin, as it supplies choline, and

choline is necessary to make the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.

Acetycholine is required for brain and nerve function. Lecithin is a

natural source, whereas you can always supplement choline, but lecithin is

easily found in health food stores, (as granules or pills) and there are

other benefits associated with lecithin that you won't get by just taking

choline supplements.

I don't know if this is true or not, but one of my docs

in Denver told me that selenium is good for hair. She

said that it makes it healthy, strenghtens it, albeit

very gradually. And Martha is absolutely right about

your hair " hx: " if you never had thick hair to begin

with, you will never " make " it thick. But you can make

it healthy, or healthier.

And interestingly enough, silica is supposed to be good

for hair and nails, although I would never apply

anything with silica to my hair, nails, or body.
