- FEB. 20, 1967: Kurt Cobain is born at Grays Harbour Community Hospital

in Aberdeen, Wash., to cocktail waitress , 19, and , 21, an auto

mechanic. The family lives in nearby Hoquiam, but moves to Aberdeen in

- 1974: Kurt, 7, a happy child with boundless energy, is prescribed Ritalin.

- FEBRUARY 1976: One week after Kurt's ninth birthday, requests a divorce

from Don. Kurt becomes withdrawn; moves to Montesano, Wa., to live with his dad.

- 1981: In his freshman year of high school, Kurt plays on the school football,

wrestling and track-and-field teams. In February, an uncle gives Kurt his first

electric guitar.

- 1982: At age 14, Kurt makes a short movie on Super-8 camera titled Kurt

Commits Bloody Suicide. In the next few years, Kurt moves 10 times and lives

with 10 different families.

- JAN. 11, 1992: Nevermind hits No. 1 on Billboard album charts, knocking out

's Dangerous. The same day, Nirvana make their first appearance

near-death overdose after injecting China white heroin in a hotel room.

- AUGUST 1992: Vanity Fair reports used heroin during pregnancy.
