Guest guest
Hi , I have three kids, two have CI's ( 6 1/2 & Sebastian 3 1/2). I remember having to make the decision about which implant to choose. It felt like one of the hardest decisions we were faced with. One of the best things we did is become very educated. We read all we could and asked a lot of questions to the professionals and other users/families. Like what you are doing now. It took a great deal of time and effort to learn the new terms and understand the technology. We liked the pediatric features of the CI for . We were very impressed by the technology the implant offered. We loved the options for different programming strategies. We really struggled trying to learn and understand about the different ways the implant could deliver sound. We were especially drawn to the company's dedication and commitment to the implant users and families. We heard stories about how the employees went to implant centers to assist children with a variety of issues. and Sebastian's hearing journey has been extraordinary. We have never had problems with their implants. Replacing cables happens rarely and we have never had any difficulties with sweat or moisture. This is great because sweats a lot and we live in Arizona (it was 106 today!!!). I wish you luck during your exciting journey into the CI world. Please let me know if you have specific questions. I'm here to gather information and experiences on choosing a CI and what it's like getting one. I've checked on line at the websites of the manufacturers but where do I find ratings such as people do with their cars? LOL!!! My history? Started wearing hearing aid at 5 years (yep, thank the school nurse!) My loss is genetic...my sister and I are both deaf, no other deafness in the family; we were told we have Pendred's syndrome (a thyroid condition that causes deafness). Anyway, to make a long story short, in January I experienced a vertigo attack and have been unable to wear my trusty old hearing aid since then because of Tullio's Phenomenon (sound induced vertigo). I am having perilymphatic fistula repair surgery in August...if that fails my last option is the CI. (Or as my neurotologist put it, I can have the CI regardless) I have bilateral tinnitus as well, with the worst occuring in my left ear. I could wear a hearing aid in my left ear but it really doesn't sound like things did in my right ear (which is the ear with the suspected fistula). I'm now 48 years old, and do not want to spend the last half of my life totally deaf if it can be helped. I did enjoy hearing pretty good with my trusty BTE in the past. So can anyone throw me their 2 cents?? I appreciate it
Guest guest
I've met Luanna and at a workshop last September. 's such a bright child and adorable. I'm so grateful for those little children to be implanted at a young age so they can hear and pick up their language skills rapidly. The adult prelinguals wishes CI was available back then but have no regret. It great to see you posted in here. Debbie B.
