Guest guest
My Brother is one I mentioned before who has Hep C and Liver Cancer. He was told by a couple of well known places to go home and call hospice. He is doing some herbal stuff. Here is an excerpt from a note to me from my dad: Talked to Bill. He,s going to Ann Arbor Tuesday to U.M. hospital for an evaluation. He said he,s swelled up like retaining fluid. He may be able to get into one of their trial programs. I am not sure though ...earlier this year they told him to go home and call hospice. Wondering what the swelling might be? Darcy

Guest guest
I sure agree with that unill. but 3 full cc sounds like a lot. Did you have a pouch dilation from that too-tiught fill? That would be a reason to untill that much - or even more, for a 1-2 month rest period. I'm afraid the only reason you could have gained 3 # is that you ate an extra 10,500 calories in that week - if it was real fat gain, and not just water weight gain from possibly bein dehydrated and/or malnourished before. try tracking your intake honestly at www.thedailyplate.com to know for sure. I'd go very carefully wth any re-fills. all those ymptoms you mention mean you were too tight. fe people need as much as 9 cc i a 10 cc band. the higher the level of restiction, the greater the potential ad actual problems - and the highe the very serious problems. Sandy r > > > My last fill was about 4 months ago and I haven't lost any weight since about 6 months ago which was the fill before last. I had gotten pregnant (with an IUD) in October so I thought the hormones were why I was having problems with losing. I was also having foul smelling burps and trouble eating certain solids (thought I wasn't chewing enough or just found a new problem food) and occasionally needed to regurgitate and some times had reflux at night that I thought was just maybe from eating too soon before bed. I've posted about all of this before. > > So I recently had an upper GI done in prep for another fill (my doc does UGIs when you reach the 9cc level with a VG band). The films weren't very good so they have to be repeated, but the report from the radiologist said that I was VERY tight. I'm now waiting to have the second UGI approved to be done at no charge since they didn't do the first one right, but my NP has removed 3ccs of fluid from my band to help rest my esophagus and pouch. She prescribed me Protonix as well for the reflux and to help with any inflammation I might have. > > The day after the fluid was removed I had horrible gas and diarrhea which I attribute to the rotten food that was sitting in my pouch (cause of the foul smelling burps) passing through my GI system. That has resolved itself. The foul smelling burps are GONE too. Hallelujah because those were embarrassing. They smelled like sulfur (yes, like a rotten fart! hehe). I have gained 3 pounds in a week, but I am not eating too much. I can eat about 4 oz of solid protein and a cup of veggies and be full. I am thinking maybe my body is just adjusting to getting good nutrition again (as opposed to soft foods, rotting food and regurgitation). > > Any thoughts? > > FYI, 2nd UGI is Friday and after those films are read I'll get a fill to get my restriction back as long as my esophagus and pouch are normal. > M. > 306 / 333 / 180 > Banded 9/14/06 > _________________________________________________________________ > Need to know the score, the latest news, or you need your HotmailĀ®- get your " fix " . > http://www.msnmobilefix.com/Default.aspx > >
Guest guest
HI there, I think you're right in thinking that the diareaha etc. was from the food that was stored passing on through like it should have in the first place. Your body will start to settle down if it hasn't already. I'm thinking the wt. gain is probably your body situating itself with getting good food that it should have been getting during the time you weren't able to really eat correctly. I'll bet by next week your body will be back on track and on the losing side again. I had an barium swallow last year and the radiologist called my Dr. and sent him the films. They agreed I was showing too tight, which I didn't feel or show symptoms of except the burping which came from deep in my gut/chest and hurt. I assumed it was too much air from drinking or eating. I hadn't eaten in over 18 hours prior to this and there was actually food in my esophogus. Gross to think of but true. My Dr. took some fill out and said to leave it be for a while and stick to the guidelines. Easier said than done for me. I just got the ok for a fill in December but couldnt make any appt. until Feb. 06 of this year. I'm not clear of what they can see on film and what they can't but he said that my band was in good position, no erosion or anything negative. He didn't feel I'd stretched or done any damage to anything. As I said, I don't know what they can't see regarding the band. He is a good man and a terrific surgeon so I'm not doubting him. Do what you have to do and what you feel is right. Pay special attention to your body and of course your Dr. tia --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Hi, Tia, (welcome to a new member !) one of the reasons for regular fluoros (maybe evry 6 mo or so during the " fill and lose " phase, and then yearly after goal, for life) is that an experienced band doc can see all kinds of things even before they show symptoms, and while many are easily correctable. Early (and later) trouble can easily be seen, including too-tight fills, pouch diations, slips, erosions, esophagus dilations, port flips and mis-positioning, reflux, most new hiatal hernias, and more.
