Question on Soy VS Dairy

I go back and forth with soy and then end up cheating and doing dairy

and I am wondering what others are doing as far as eating dairy or

not.

I find when I am off the dairy I do feel better but lately I have

been substituting hot chocalate for my usual morning coffee, I think

it is making me feel worse and what I understand about autoimmune

diseases is that dairy products can stimulate antibodies and cause us

more pain and inflammation, so I think I am going to once again kick

the dairy habit.

I got a blender and stocked up on some soy protein powder and will

make morning shakes instead of coffee or cocoa and see how it works

out.

I also was curious because I have read that while we should avoid

dairy that non fat yogurt is an exception to the rule, does anyone

know anything about this? I really like yogurt in my smoothies.

Thanks for the info and any feedback, love

I pretty much avoid dairy too, but I do cheat once in awhile with cheese, like on pizza or on a homemade sub sandwich. I don't think once in awhile is really bad for us.

Yogurt, made with correct ingredients can be beneficial in establishing good bacteria colonies in the gut. Excluded are yogurts made with gelatins and which have absolutely no live bacteria in them. You need to look for the icon that says "live active cultures" and look for l.acidophilus, or l.bifidus in them. I only buy organic yogurt when I do buy it, or else make my own with a yogurt maker.

You will just have to try it and see if you have any adverse reactions. I eat yogurt and dairy rarely, because I just am not sure how my body is dealing with it. Like I said, I can cheat once in awhile, but I do not feel good about eating it often.

Casein seems to be the main culprit for those with allegies. Then there are those who are lactose intolerant--they lack the right enzymes to digest it, which can develop later in life. For those without allergies or problems with lactose, unless you drink organic milk, there are also the issues of the stuff they inject into the dairy herds that are bad --like rBST, rBGH (growth hormones that are reputed to be cancer causing) and the antibiotics that they load the cows up on. That all comes out in the milk and is bad for everyone. Basically milk is for babies, and that is about it. Humans are the only mammals who drink milk beyond infancy.

Drinking milk is risky business, according to Cohen ("Milk, the Deadly Poison"), and for those concerned about getting enough calcium, green leafy vegetables are a much better source of organic calcium anyway!

I should have added that there are other ways to get the good colonies in the gut besides yogurt. This falls into the class of fermented foods, and includes things like raw sauerkraut (not cooked, because cooking destroys the enzymes), kimchi, miso...there are others, but my mind is blank. Kefir is another fermented dairy product.
