Excellent tool, very fun.  What a great gift.  N

Wii fit

Does anyone on here have and use a Wii fit? My son is getting me one

for Valentine's Day. I just want to know if anyone has it and thinks

it is a really cool thing, good tool?

Thanks,

YES, we bought one for me right before I was banded in September. I

was all gung ho on it, but once I mastered the basic balance games and

was strong enough to handle the REAL workouts, my chronic pain on my

neck came back so bad that PT told me to knock it off and just keep on

with the PT till I can handle it. I was easily doing 1100 free steps

w/o breaking a sweat or feeling like I was working out... but my neck

hurt so much I was in tears.

My husband, who is not banded, and has used it faithfully every day,

he has lost 35lbs - all he needed to lose, and is getting rather buff!!!

I hear from others who have a discipline problem (like me, chronic

pain not-withstanding!) that the wii fit gets boring after awhile..

but my husband, who IS disciplined, absolutely loves it. He constantly

finds new ways to challenge himself and push himself just a little bit

more.

So.. in a way I think it's like the band. It's a great tool but only

works if you work it! :D

Hope this helps if only just a bit. I think it's worth it, personally!

I WILL use it again when this pain doesn't hold me back so much - I

will get better :D

All depends if you use it. Just think of all the treadmills and

exercise bikes in the country that are serving as clothes racks, dust

collectors, etc.

Note I'm NOT suggesting that will be the case with you, just that " it

works if you work it " , which is true of most things in life.

cheers

Thanks Dan. I realize it depends on use. I have had exercise bikes

collect dust. I hate to exercise, but I am committed to it now, with

the band. I am sure I won't do a lot, but I am hoping that I like it

well enough to do either 15min. per day or 30 min every other for now.

Thank you for the reply. I am going to give it a try. If I don't

like it, I have 15 days to return it. I have shoulder pain that I

will have the rest of my life and arthritis in my toes. Right now I

am having problem with my wrist. Not sure if it is the carpal tunnel

kicking up or tendonitis this time, so I doubt I can do the pushups.

Just wondering if anyone has a Wii Fit and if they think it's beneficial

excercise. Also how is it on your neck & back? Do you know if they have any

" games " specifically for people with spine problems? Are you glad you bought it

or was it a waste?

Thanks everyone! Have a great weekend!!

Hugs,

19 Lbs loss so far!!

Hello again!Just thought I'd let you know that my partner bought me a Wii Fit a few weeks ago and until today, I'd been too heavy to use it. (I'm only honest about my *real* weight in this group and with my doctor - even my partner has no clue how much I weigh!) I told him I hadn't used it yet because I was worried I'd get disheartened with a very high Wii Fit Age, but to my suprise it came out at 46 - only 7 years older than my actual age. :o)I've worked up quite a sweat doing some of the aerobics exercises and it's really handy for someone who is pretty sedentary like me, and also because I feel too self-conscious at the moment to join a gym, so I'm thrilled to be able to do something positive in the comfort of my own home. :o) Luckily for me, my five-month-old daughter seems to be highly entertained/ amused by the sight of Mummy huffing and puffing on a piece of white plastic in the centre of the living room!Bye for

nowPatsy x

Congrats on your new toy!

I have a great gym membership with losts of classes included in the price, but I

just don't feel able to participate until I bring my weight down a bit more.

I have a Biggest Loser Boot Camp DVD and a Austin and a few others that I

use at home. If you're really out of shape and/or starting at a high weight the

DVDs are a little easier to follow.

I like the ones I have as they ask a bit more than I want to do-- which is what

I need! And when I can't keep up with the fancy moves, I just walk or march in

place -- just to keep my heart rate elevated for the 20 minutes.

20 minutes does not seem like a long time unless you are woefully out of shape

and trying to get thru a 20 min cardio session.

I won't even do my cardio when my DH is home! LOL

Oh wow!! I adore videos. I used them years ago when living with my family, have VHS videos of sweating to the oldies, dance your pants off,..I also tried Sansone Walk away the pounds with blue weighted balls.

My Wii Fit age is down to 41 today! *faints*

I'm focusing on aerobic/cardio workouts as I know these are the real fat burners

and they're so much more fun on this machine that on some silly treadmill at the

gym (can you tell I have a low boredom threshold?!?)

I have shockingly bad coordination, so I'm loving doing the step workouts in the

privacy of my own home, rather than in front of dozens of lycra-clad beauties

who would most likely be giving me either pitying looks or laughing hysterically

at my 'efforts'! lol

Tabitha is teething REALLY badly today, so I've only been able to grab 15

minutes on the machine today (she's with me now as I type this) but as soon as

she dozes off for her afternoon nap I'll get back on it again. :o)

Bye for now

Back in the early 1980's I would entertain my infant then toddler son

with my antics to . He *loved* the videos -

whether it was the voice, hair or whatever - and he got so used to Mommy

doing weird things in front of the tv that I got children's exercise

videos when they came out, like Winnie the Pooh's. We even made up our

own exercises to go alone with the Raffi music.

Of course, once he got older and was forced to exercise in school the

thrill was gone and he stopped, but I might still have that Winnie the

Pooh video in one of my boxes of exercise videos in this apartment

somewhere.

We have a number of gyms in our area but not one of them offers any type

of classes except for the way out of my price range Jewish community

center. All the rest of them offer are machines and free weights, and

only 1 has personal trainers around that you can hire for some

exhorbitant amount of money.

Even the Curves gyms in the area closed down after about 2 years. After

6 months someone else opened another one in my city, but they're now in

an even smaller storefront and they're charging even *more* than the

original one, $60/month. The old one closed because people couldn't

afford the $40 (contract) and $50 (without) the old one wanted.

> 20 minutes does not seem like a long time unless you are woefully out

20 minutes of a Sansone walk-aerobics video is about all my

arthritic feet and hip can handle. Some of the other non-impact type of

videos I can go for a longer time.

> I won't even do my cardio when my DH is home! LOL

My 25 yo son has seen my exercise since he was a newborn, so I don't

mind doing it when he's around (He knows when to stay out of the LR),

but I don't workout when hubby is home and awake. Since on weekends I'm

usually awake by 6am and he sleeps until almost 9 I have plenty of time

to do a modified workout that won't wake him (The LR shares a wall with

the bedroom). But if he wakes up whiles I'm sweatin' I turn off the

video and just move around until my heart rate drops back down. Yes,

even after almost 32 years of marriage I will *not* let him see me

exercise. Gotta keep *something* a mystery now, right? LOL
