Re: Procrit

no elizabeth,, Procrit is given for anemia of RED BLOOD CELLS and for low hemoglobin,, what they give for platelets is something different. Neupogen is given for anemia of white blood cells..just want to make sure we give out absolutely correct information,,

Hi Stacey, From what I know about Procrit it is a medication that comes in an injection that is precribed for people with real low blood platlets. In other words people with severe Anemia! Like myself, although my Doc. chose not to put me on it due to the side effects it could have. Iv'e had alot of sides from the TX. The common ones as well as the rare ones, so severe that they want to take me off the TX if I or my bloodwork don't improve. I also know people that are taking Chemo that have to be precribed Procrit due to low blood & Anemia. And of course I'm sure you already know that these TX that wer'e taking ( inter/riba ) are a form of Chemo. What we are taking is the same thing that people with Lukemia & other Cancers are taking! scwilson1972 <scwilson1972 > wrote:

May I ask what is procrit? I know what ribavarin and interfuron is, but I see people mention procrit a lot and I have no idea what that is.Thanks,Stacey

Jax, I thought the only way to get your platelet count up was to have a platelet transfusion. I had to have that done twice before my transplant because my platelet count was almost nill. If there is another drug that induces platelet multiplication the people who are in end stage cirrosis need it very badly. Steve You may be right, Im not so sure about platelets like I am on the procrit and neupo because I needed and took both while on tx... I would guess that there may be some chemical drug they would give to cause you to make more platelets but it may be different for those who have had transplants too.. Infusing platelets would seem like the easiest and quickest way to fix the problem.. jaxSteve Bridgers <stevebridgers@...> wrote: Jax, I thought the only way to get your

My husband took it when he was on treatment. His platelets bottomed

out so they put him on procrit.
