Guest guest
Shirley, Klonopin (clonazepam) is a very safe drug. I, too, have been on it for several yrs due to anxiety, panic, and insomnia. It has been around for a while and is very safe compared to other drugs used for the same reason. However, it is a benzodiazepine, which is always a difficult class of drugs to withdraw from if you've been on them for a while. That is why there is the warning with all benzos that long term use (>10 days), is not recommended. You must withdraw slowly from it, or else run the risk of withdrawal side effects, such as the ones you described. Abrupt and/or quick cessation of the drug can also cause seizures. When you think about it, you should place the blame on the doc(s) that continued to rx it for you. Someone, somewhere along the line, should have told you about the potential for addiction/tolerance, and the potential unpleasant side effects associated with stopping the drug. Klonopin actually has less side effects than do other benzos. e
