I did not find any information pertaining to autism, althought I did not spend a large amount of time searching. I DID find that this item is sold through a Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM) program. Guest guest Posted July 14, 1999 Report Share Posted July 14, 1999 Both my son (developmentaly delayed/speech delayed with symptoms of austism) and myself (Crohn's Disease) have tried transfer factor. We originally tried Colostrum (first milk from a cow) but it gave me a terrible headache on the second day. Transfer Factor is supposedly colostrum with the milk allergens removed. At first the transfer factor gave me energy and seemed to help heal my intestine and my son seemed to have less tantrums. I found that the results wore off after a couple of months. He started taking it on a Thursday and started saying the alphabet and saying " ready set go " by that Saturday. He was also giving me incredible spontaneous eye contact. On that Sunday he was watching Bambi and he was reciting sentences from the video. I heard him say, " Is it spring yet? " . Then he was watching Sesame Street " Do the Alphabet. " As the children were making letters with there bodies, he would look at me and say each letter. I almost fell off my chair!! Tyler was there and really with it in a way I had never seen before. Here's the down side to the story. That weekend was where I saw the greatest improvements but some faded even by Monday. Tyler definitely has retained some of the things he was saying like the alphabet & ready set go but he did not retain that way he was acting " typical. " I don't really understand why the transfer factor hasn't continued to help Tyler improve it really makes me wonder. I hope this info. is helpful to you! Has anyone else had an experience like this? The only benefits we saw during that time, at a dosage of 3 capsules per day, was a reduction in his chicken skin on the upper arms on legs. When we resume use we'll try increasing the dose to 6 capsules/day. 4 Life Research did not conduct the trials on the autistic children. This was done by Fudenberg who, I believe, was/is a principle designer of transfer factor derivation. I have been meaning to call him to try to get some direct information but have not had the time. He can be reached at 864-591-0944. We ordered transfer factor through a woman named Patty Baker. She can be reached at 800-639-1343. FYI, Kirkman Labs is coming out with a related product which is also derived from Colostrum(sp?). My understanding is that their product will contain larger antibody components that 4 Life's transfer factor does not which may make it more beneficial. Kirkman's phone number is 888-KIRKMAN. Their literature cites a study by Hugh Fudenberg where 12 out of 22 kids were mainstreamed after taking transfer factor. What they don't say is more alarming. Fudenberg's transfer factor was created from human blood and given intravenously. This is a far cry from 4 Life Research's Tranfer Factor which is created from bovine cholostrum. (/drdavid) More importantly, I tracked down where I had heard about the " transfer factor " that is on the market. It is NOT the same stuff that Fundenburg (I don't know correct spelling) studied with kids with high MMR titers. My source was very good on this one. The company that is putting out most of the current T.F. is a multi-level marketing company and is making bank on the product. It only has a portion of colostrum in it and costs them about $3.00 to make. There is a group putting together a study with about 30 kids based on Fundenburg's original work, if it proves successful they will put a supplement on the market, but not under the name TF. Remember at the Orlando conference when asked about TF the speaker said the product out now was not the same thing as Fundenburgs. Hope this helps! Fudenberg had a substantial grant which was able to cover the cost of making the TF. This TF was only available from Fundenberg and his staff. Some of his proteges believe it may be possible to make a more generic type of TF which can address various viruses, yeast, chlostridia, etc. and not be child specific which would reduce the costs of TF production substantially. My understanding is they are lining up a sponsor now to fund its development. This TF would still be made from human blood. It is also my understanding that they believe they can make the TF in a form that can be taken orally rather than a form that must be administered by injection or infusion. Have you checked your child's cytokines to see if his NK cells are below level or are they elevated which is sometimes found with kids? If the NK cells are elevated what are the results of giving the transfer factor? Are you doing periodic blood work to monitor results? There are two versions of Transfer Factor: One is pure transfer factor extracted from colostrum and then there is Transfer Factor Plus which adds numerous other immune boosting ingredients to the pure Transfer Factor product.......
