Guest guest
update on me I have been offline for several weeks and just got back on. I took my 4th shot on Wednesday and I am tired of this already (sigh). Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful that there is something that might cure this, but I really don't feel well at all. I am tired all of the time and feel dizzy. My last blood test showed my white counts down. They cut my last shot in half and, since the insurance company is dragging their feet about getting me some more meds sent (something like New???) they are saying that I am to stop the shots. I had another blood test done today. I have a horrible sore throat...white spots and everything. The nurse said that as long as I am not running fever to not worry about it, but (whining very loudly) IT HURTS!!! I will promise to now complain too much anymore. I just cannot do it around my family. I am a suck-it-up-and-deal-with-it person. Thanks for listening to me whine. <><TammieD><> ps. I am so tired of dealing with insurance I could scream!!!!! Is there a company anywhere that is run as badly as this?

Guest guest
Tammi... I've been wondering how you were doing. And I'm so sorry you are having problems. Low WBC and they cut your interferon? The interferon destroys platelets...the ribavarinn causes the anemia. Platelets can drop to 50,000 before they cut the shots down to half dose...at 25,000 they pull you from treatment. I've forgotten how low RBC get before they cut one of the ribavarinn pills a day. I can't sleep tonight so my mind is a little fuzzy. But read the product info that is in the boxes with the vials. As I recall, it's table 6 with the information you need. Compare your labs with Roche's guidelines. Or sign up at Pegassist.com and contact their 7x24 hour nurses. The dizziness and fatigue are probably anemia...or your TSH (thyroid)...the symptoms are pretty much the same for anemia and a hypothyroid. Make sure they test your TSH levels. Normal is .5-5.5 but most wimmin feel best at the low end. And a sore throat with white spots...that sure sounds like strept throat...but I'm pretty sure a fever comes with that, but not positive. I know a lot of people get mouth sores, but I've never heard of sores in the throat. Maybe someone else on the list has experienced that. You can complain to us whenever you want. When having difficulties with treatment, no one understands like those who have been there. That's why we are here. update on me I have been offline for several weeks and just got back on. ... but I really don't feel well at all. I am tired all of the time and feel dizzy. Guest guest
Tammi, The white spots and sore throat sounds like it may be a yeast infection...yes you can get that in your throat. I think they call it Thrush. It quite often happens in babies, but I had it as an adult. The doctor gave me some medicine to swish and swallow. It worked pretty fast. I agree with Tatezi. Read the instructions that came with your medication. I may be mistaken, but I think they should have cut back on the pills, and not the shots. They had me cut back from 6 Rebetol to 4 when I was on treatment, and it helped the anemia some. You may suffer from anemia all through treatment, and it is pretty miserable, but the end result is well worth it. Guest guest
Yeast infection...I hadn't thought about that but I bet is right. It's the ribavarinn that causes anemia, not the interferon. Read the product guidlines and take them with you to the doctor. Not all doctors are aware of the nuances of treatment. Guest guest
Hi Tammy and everyone. Yes indeed. Could be strep, but could be the " good ole fungus among us " (yeast infection). When wbcs drop, fungal infections can occur easily, and white patches in the mouth is probably fungal. If they're in the back of the throat, strep infection can (and should) be ruled out. Fungal infections can be very painful and hard to treat. Something called " Mycelex troches " (lozenge medication that you chew and swallow) can be prescribed to help. It doesn't take a fever for Mycelex troches to be indicated. Sorry you're having a tough time. Hope you feel better soon.
