Dave,

I have a friend with back and neck problems, and has tried several types of

things to stop the pain, including, medication, a neuro-stimulator, and now

she's trying a pain pump, morphine in it didn't help, they drained it, and next

they're going to put fentanyl in it. Through all this she has been all different

anti-depressants also, and since she's also on SSDI with Medicare, she went over

the limit with that " donut hole " because of the cost of the

anti-depressants mostly. She's on a different RX plan this year, but still can't

find an anti-depressant that really works, and is on Cymbalta now with the dr.

occasionally giving her free samples. My question is; is the new one you're

on(Pristiq) available in generic form? She really wants off Cymbalta, it gives

her some side effects, but has been most effective, but still costly. She has no

other insurance coverage as her husband is jobless, and I thought if your

Pristiq came in a generic form, maybe she

could try it out. Thanks for any info you can give me. How is your pain level?

I go next Friday for a lumbar epidural. I hate to start those again, as some of

them never helped prior to my surgery. I think this is the first one since then,

have had far too many surgeries to remember the dates, but I think my a/p lumbar

fusion was 4 years ago, and for the last 6 months, the pain has been steadily

increasing, even through a higher doseage of my opiate, and breakthrough pain

med. I'm hoping the epidural will give me some relief.

Take care

I'll preface this with all medicines especially anti-depressants work

different on us. I had been on Cymbalta for about 3 years and it

really wasn't doing it anymore. I was pretty darn depressed at 60mg

dose per day. 3 weeks ago my psychiatrist changed me to a new

anti-depressant called Pristiq. At first it made me real jittery for

about a week. A combination of starting the Pristiq and stopping the

Cymbalta. But I can say I'm generally more alert and upbeat since the

change. Just an FYI. Dave

Thanks Dave!! I may have to switch off of Cymbalta soon too. I'm on 120mg. The

FDA seems to think that taking 120 over 60 doesn't make a difference. If they do

make that final, my insurance won't pay for the additional 60 nor do I think

pharmacies will be able to dispense it. 120mg definitely made a difference for

me.

HI,

Dave, Good to hear the new med is working well for you!

Jeannie, What is a " donut-hole " ? I'm on SSDI and Medicare and I've never heard

that term. I'm always worried my ins co is going to try to get me off some of

the meds due to cost; one med I take is over $600 a month. Thanks,

Take care.

I don't know if there is a generic. It's pretty new. Here is the

chemical name: desvenlafaxine Made by Wyeth

My pain level has been up. I go for a new MRI on March 10th and see

a new Pain Management Doctor on the 24th. I have some new pain on my

left side and knee. Previously most of my pain has been on my right side.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the info, I'll pass it on.

So sorry about your knee pain. There seems to be a lot of us now with knee pain.

Somewhere along the way I was told that my back pain which was travelling down

my hips was affecting the way I walk, which also affects my knees. But-in my

case, I had knee problems way before my back start hurting, one knee had already

been replaced before my back surgury. Who knows-I just wish for some relief. I

was told that my knee replacements were good for 10-15 years, depending on my

lifestyle. I've had one for almost 10 years, conceivably, in my lifetime I'm

looking at both of them being replaced one or two more times. Hopefully things

will get better as technology progresses. I had Synvisc injections in my knees,

which helped for a long time, but my job was so physical, I had no cartilage

left so I had to have replacements.

It helps me forget the pain when I get online and start jabbering like this, so

thanks for letting me go on and on.

Take care, and good nite

Jeannie

One thing that really seems to flare up my knee is when I drive my

pickup truck which is a standard shift. Pushing in the clutch seems

to aggravate it. But there are no new cars in the future for me, so

I'll have to live with it. Dave
