Subject: URGENT: To youth minister Ed Sullivan and all other interested persons Date: Tue, 16 Mar 2004 02:36:42 -0700 Dear Servants working within the United Church of Christ, I hope this message finds it's way to those of you who will take action on this matter, and do all you can to protect the youth which you minister to. I read with heaviness in my heart the account of Harvey and the tragedy which has occurred in your area. This is one account from among many that has been published: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/apus_story.asp?category=1110 & slug=Deputy%\ 20Killed & searchdiff=1 & searchpagefrom=1 I am working with activists throughout the United States and Europe to raise public awareness to the dangers of SSRI drugs. Though none of the accounts I have read mention which drug was prescribed, those I work with are certain that whichever drug he was prescribed led to this outcome. Sadly, is not the first youth who has been adversely affected by a drug which should have never been prescribed for him; neither will he be the last. Please see these accounts for confirmation of what is strangling our youth: Pittman - Killed his grandparents http://www.heraldonline.com/local/story/2979629p-2730571c.html Attias - Teenager charged with murder in car deaths sfgate.com/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2001/02/27/MN116469.DTL *Kenny* (Name Changed) - My son is not a monster http://www.canoe.ca/EdmontonNews/33n1.html Traci - Youth's suicide cries out to FDA for drug warnings http://www.indystar.com/articles/2/121004-8092-092.html Deon Whitfield and Durrell Feaster - Double suicide Prozac prescribed without parental consent http://www.thekcrachannel.com/news/2878886/detail.html Kara Baker - A Mother's Tribute to her daughter http://www.geocities.com/mothershara/index.html Kids, Meds and Suicide http://www.latimes.com/features/health/la-he-ssri2feb02,1,6561761.story Opening Pandora's Box - Story After Story http://www.thetimesonline.com/articles/2003/12/27/news/region_and_state/ce0a7c54\ 4035904086256e0600655baf.txt These stories are only a handful amongst thousands. On February 2nd of this year the FDA held hearings to address the issue of whether or not these popular antidepressants are linked with violent behavior and suicidal and/or homicidal ideation in children. You can read the full transcript of the hearing at this link: http://www.fda.gov/ohrms/dockets/ac/04/transcripts/4006T1.htm In August the Canadian Catholic Women's Group adopted a new resolution to their constitution - a warning against SSRI drugs: http://www.cwl.bc.ca/resolutions2003.html which states in part, " Resolved, That the Council of The Catholic Women's League of Canada in annual convention assembled, urge Canada Food and Drug Administration to undertake the following: a) to make information available to all people living in Canada regarding the potential dangers involved in using Prozac and other SSRI antidepressants; and to make warning labels mandatory regarding all side effects on Prozac and all other SSRI type medications. While the warnings have been emphasized especially in the youth population, my associates have no reservation in concluding that SSRIS are equally unsafe for a percentage of the adult population, and we have the accounts of friends and family members throughout the world who will testify of this. Furthermore, we are being led to believe that Prozac is the sole exception. Do not be deceived. This is why Prozac was " approved " : I'd like you to look at the information that is not being reported in the media and I hope citizens of all nations will take action to include Prozac in the warning issued to medical professionals and patients. See: http://cspinet.org/new/pdf/ssri_paper.pdf In the third paragraph- The FDA’s approval of fluoxetine (PROZAC) for children was based on two studies whose outcomes were controversial, even to the FDA reviewers. According to the report issued by the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research at FDA, the treatment effect of fluoxetine compared to placebo was “non-significant” but trended in the direction of favoring the drug in one trial of 96 patients. Even that trend was based on what the reviewer considered a low threshold for measuring relief from the symptoms of depression. A second trial involving 210 youths “did not win on the protocol specified endpoint.” However, other measures of psychic wellbeing indicated that about 70 percent of patients improved compared to 60 percent on placebo. “The sponsor appeared to achieve nominal significance on other secondary endpoints,” the reviewer noted. Furthermore, Eli Lilly's new Prozac Fact Sheet sent to UK physicians--but not to US physicians--states that Prozac is NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN for any indication. I would be more than happy to put you in touch with those who testified at the FDA hearing, and with members of the media who are assisting us in making this truth known to the public. As well, we have many medical professionals who are sounding the alarm. It would be well for you to read the plan of action developed by a leading psychiatrist, Dr Jay S. Cohen, MD: http://www.medicationsense.com/articles/april_june_04/underlying_cause.html We recognize that depression and other mental, emotional and behavioral disturbances are real challenges, but we acknowledge that these challenges cannot be resolved with " treatments " that harm more than help. If any of you are in touch with the Harvey family, please deliver a copy of this message to them. Sincerely, Dawn Rider President, A.S.P.I.R.E. http://www.aspire.us dawnrider@... israelswarrior@...
