Dear DC's,

Below is an email that I sent to Betty re: 'care providers' being

covered by the initiative when they are unable to obtain malpractice

coverage. Her response is included as is mine. I am very concerned that Ms.

's sole goal is to get the initiative passed and then work out the

kinks later.(see her response re: chiro fees to Dr.Megehee).

I personally feel that if one assumes to presume a 'professional' title (and

the responsibility attendant therein) then they should be professional

enough as a 'profession' to be able to attain malpractice coverage.

I hope this issue concerns you also.

Re: Health Initiative

Sharron, Thanks you for the information about lack of malpractice

coverage for licensed direct entry midwives. I do not know the

answers to your questions and I do not think Health Care for

ALL-Orgegon is able to respond at this time.

There are numerous questions about the detailed operations of the Health

Plan which will be addressed by the board of directors and thru the

administrative rules which they will develop. I encourage you to follow

thru with your questions when the time comes...following the May election

, 2003, when the board will be elected...assuming approval of the

initiative on November 5th, 2002.

There are many important issues like this one. It will take time. We

must persevere. Thanks again for your inquiry. Betty ,

member of the HCA-O executive committee.
