Guest guest
Hi e, An MRI of your neck will also show if there is something pressing on your esophagus or something anatomically wrong. The esophagus and trachea are easily seen on cross-section of the neck. The esophagus is right next to the cervical discs and swallowing can be effected if there are large bone spurs coming from the discs or if a disc is herniated outwards toward the esophagus rather than in towards the spinal canal where the spinal cord and nerve roots are. The esophageal endoscopy will show if there is something wrong with the mucosa like inflamation or lesions from acid reflux. If you have a swallowing problem due to bone spurs for instance, I don't know if the GI could see it on an endoscopy. If the swallowing pain is due to esophageal spasms then other tests are done like manometry or pressure measurements. The barium swallow to some extent shows if your swallowing is impared for liquid. Do certain foods (chunks or dry food vs. liquid, or acidic vs. bland) cause more pain than others? I've had upper endoscopies done. It was easy, No problems. Don't worry, Rochelle
