Guest guest
I'm not sure about tracking, but it doesn't disqualify you from the program if you choose not to vaccinate. > > How do these tie in together in the state of California? Guest guest
Thanks Dawn, but I could care less if it disqualifies me, just real concerned about the forcing and tracking. Kind of makes us stand out now and just want to be left alone with the non-vaxxing issue. Rina > > > > How do these tie in together in the state of California? Guest guest
I'm not sure how it works in California but in Massachussetts I just told them that my daughter was completely unvaccinated and they were fine with that. Actually the person in our wic office said her daughter was completely unvaccinated as well. WIC program and vaccinations How do these tie in together in the state of California? Do they keep track or force vaccinations on children within this program? Any info will be greatly appreciated! Rina
Guest guest
google on this +wic+california+tracking+vaccine and see what you find and this for California vaccine tracking +california+tracking+vaccine and http://dvk.cust.he.net/imms/immtrack.htm the URL there for California doesn't work but found this here by googling http://www.aapca2.org/PediatricNews/q3-99/news__commentary.htm " In order to facilitate the development of SIIS, two bills were passed in the state legislature over the past several years, AB254 and SB 2222. The first, AB254, permits the exchange of immunization information with individual providers. It also governs the confidentiality of immunization information recognizing that a requirement for explicit permission for each data exchange would severely hamper an immunization registry. At the same time AB254 acknowledges that some parents do not want any information exchanged without their explicit permission. The bill requires that parents be informed of the possibility that immunizations will be exchanged with others involved in the care of their child, and be given the opportunity to say no to all such requests for information. If prior denial has not been made, immunization information may be exchanged, for the purpose of the child's medical care, without further consent. The second bill, SB2222, extends the right to exchange information with authorized schools, child care facilities, WIC agencies, health care facilities and health care plans. These agencies must agree to maintain confidentiality and to use the information only for limited, specified purposes. " " California is not alone in this endeavor. Nearly every state has an active program for the development of immunization registries. At a national level, the CDC is actively developing guidelines and support for the state efforts, with some discussion of a national immunization registry in the future " Sheri listowner At 07:26 AM 8/6/2008, you wrote: >Thanks Dawn, but I could care less if it disqualifies me, just real >concerned about the forcing and tracking. Guest guest
Just like anywhere else (school, peds etc.) They aren't going to force you but advise you to get it done. My sister is on WIC in Utah and hasn't had any problems with her non vax status. She was actually pleasantly surprised when the last time she went in the lady in front of her was no vax as well! They aren't " trackin " per say to come after you it will just be noted in your file. My best advice in these situations is to just remember you know more about the issue then the people working there, and if you are confindent in your knowledge they will leave you alone. Good luck Marci > > > > > > How do these tie in together in the state of California? Do they > keep > > > track or force vaccinations on children within this program? Guest guest
I don't remember them asking for shot records when I was living in CA. From my recollection, they were more interested in boosting the number of breastfeeding moms. What I did here in KY was just give them a notorized statement that I was refusing them based on my religious beliefs. No issues, no questions! -Kristi > > How do these tie in together in the state of California? Do they keep > track or force vaccinations on children within this program? Guest guest
THANK YOU MARCI for those wonderful words of encouragement! They didn't ask for her vaxx status when I applied and got approved, but I don't need them hounding me down the line.....not to mention this WIC program offers CRAP foods and quite honestly doesn't even seem worth it! Thank you again Marci. Rina > > > > > > > > How do these tie in together in the state of California? Guest guest
Hi Rina! Where are you located? I noticed even with my foster babies, different locations are either more or less pushy. There is a church in Santee that does WIC once a month & they NEVER even asked me the question. I don't know about keeping track & such, but I've never had any problems in the past. Hope this helps. Good luck! > > How do these tie in together in the state of California? Do they keep > track or force vaccinations on children within this program? Guest guest
Thank you for the response, I am in CA. They didn't question anything about her vaxx status while I was in the office applying, I'm just hoping nothing becomes an issue later on down the line. If so, I am more than willing to drop WIC if it means hassling me. I'll just see how it goes......thank you again! Rina > > > > How do these tie in together in the state of California? Guest guest
We had a recert last week. I just reminded the lady that my kids have a medical exemption, and then gave her a short summary of why vaccines are dangerous for kids with mito issues (I didn't go farther; needed to take baby steps here). Was not an issue at all, and we did our recert without any problems whatsoever. From: anniemokels <anniemokels@...>Subject: WIC Program and Vaccinationsno-forced-vaccination Date: Thursday, August 6, 2009, 3:51 PM It has been drawn to my attention that the WIC program (Women, Infants, and Children, a government sponsored food program) is now asking for vaccination records on recertification visits. WIC offices do not offer vaccinations and to my knowledge this is a new practice. Does anybody have more indepth information on this--such as if benefits will be terminated if one is not vaccinated.. . or who has access to these records.Thank you.Anne

Guest guest
If that is being implemented is it NOT a violation of the HIPPA Law? Shot records are Medical records Right? anniemokels wrote: It has been drawn to my attention that the WIC program (Women, Infants, and Children, a government sponsored food program) is now asking for vaccination records on recertification visits. Guest guest
It is my understanding that according to federal guidelines (no matter what the individual offices tell you), they CANNOT stop your benefits due to your vaccination status. They can ask to see the record and give you a hard time about it, but they legally cannot make you get vaccinations OR take your benefits away. I don't know who has access to the records, though. I'd assume your case worker and any medical staff? But I don't receive WIC so I'm not sure. --Kate Mommy to Rebekah, 1-26-08 , 7-16-09 > > It has been drawn to my attention that the WIC program (Women, Infants, and Children, a government sponsored food program) is now asking for vaccination records on recertification visits. Guest guest
I have WIC for my daughter who is 2 and I also have a waiver from Texas. I was told at one point that I HAD to have her vaccinated or could not get WIC. I refused and showed them my waiver and she was not happy. She asked if she could check her iron. a finger prick. I allowed that watching VERY closley and left the office with my WIC. Guest guest
Anne, I use to participate in WIC and everytime I went they would ask for the shot record. My daughter never had her HepA. And the health dept. did call me and remind me. I still had my benefits though but they may have changed that. I don't know. Kim Hamilton kimhamilton1536@... Guest guest
Wic usually issues vaccines to children, for free and gives you some food, not much and also checks for Iron levels in children. It was started to make sure that small children, below school age got a proper diet, especially iron, because there are supposedly lots of low income children who are low on iron, they also give free vaccinations and usually tell people it is a requirement. Hope this helps. Go in Peace, Judy On 8/6/09, a Vera <krismas1999@...> wrote: > I have WIC for my daughter who is 2 and I also have a waiver from Texas.
