Guest guest
Hi All, I don't know if any of you have heard of Gaffney. She is a young woman of 21 with Down Syndrome from Portland, Oregon, who will be swimming the English Channel this summer. My daughter, Sara (DS), age 6 and I had the opportunity to meet her on Sunday. She was in Bend, Oregon, near where we live, as she has established a relay team to accompany her and four people from Bend are on her team, so they had a practice swim at a local athletic club and then a reception after. She is an amazing woman. I had a great visit with her. She loves to read, she loves the theater and is in a theater group, she swims two miles everyday and is a 3.5 student at a junior college going towards an accreditation in Early Childhood Education, and will work as an Educational Aide. She really reached out to Sara. She is an inspiration. For those of you who would like to visit her website, the address is: www.karengaffneyfoundation.com The kids started back to school today. My hugest challenge is still the potty training thing....As I recall about throwing things--that does get better even by Sara's age (6). I remember the time she threw my cell phone in the canal when she was in the baby jogger and then there was the phase of throwing things out the car window. She seems to get that throwing is an absolute no-no. Hang in there! Our other challenge is the usual winter sinus stuff. After 30 days on Augmentin (antibiotic), Sara still is not clear, so will have a CT Scan tomorrow to determine where we go from here. I so thought I had a battle plan; with manipulations from the Osteopath, saline nose drops, etc. I sometimes wonder if she is allergic to our wood heat. My thoughts and prayers are still with you, Sue. Marcia Mom to Sara (DS) and 6 and Lucas
