So we went to the dentist yesterday and my 7 yo has two cavities that they need to fill. My question is what are my options at this point as far as what they use for fillings? What do I do to strengthen her enamel on her teeth? He wants me to use more fluoride but I know better. Please share your thoughts as I laid in bed all night worrying about this. I am so glad that the thought popped in my head about the fillings while I was sleeping. I didn't have time to process what all he was telling me yesterday until I slowed down to try to sleep. Now, I need to figure out a plan of action. My whole family thinks I am crazy anyway, now the dentist will get to chime in I guess. The battles never end do they? Thank you to all of you. Did I mention how much we have already been through just to keep her alive and here?? I sure don't want to do anything else to her health.

Hi

one of my grandchildren had week enamel and since we have put her on calc phos tissue salts from the New Era range the dentist has said how much better her enamel is. I do suspect that this could be down to the vaccinations when she was small so i also have given her the anti dote homoeopathically.

Do you have her on liquid minerals and vitamins? My family uses Xyliwhite toothpaste. It has NO sodium laureth sulfate and NO fluoride. Our teeth are great. My husband used to have all kinds of gum sensitivity and bleeding...since we stopped using those 2 ingredients his teeth/gums feel good! As your dentist for BPA free ceramic for the fillings. If he doesn't do them, then I would find a naturopathic dentist who will. Especially if she has already had alot of health problems.Good luck.Stand your ground! Whatever you do, do not allow the dentist to use dental amalgams--the "silver" fillings. They are the ones that have mercury and other heavy metals (you name it, it's in the mix). You don't say whether the cavities are in permanent teeth or the deciduous ("baby") teeth. That may influence your decision. Conglomerates (white fillings that are a combination of polymers and plastics) also have their drawbacks.

Best of luck!!! My prayers will be with you as you sort out the myriad of information you will receive.

Amalgams, NEVER, do NOT do it, even if the dentist lies and says they are silver, not mercury. These have destroyed lives in this family. No palladium, either, but that isn't likely. Most will only offer composite as an alternative, far better but that does contain BPA. If you can get pure ceramic, and you're sure that this is what it is, that's the best choice. These are permanent teeth, I gather, otherwise why not just wait. My next concern would be why cavities and what kind of daily habits ought to change. Sugar could be part of it, but is he getting enough calcium and magnesium in his daily diet, consider adding in some mg/ca citrate. And, of course, NO fluoride toothpaste. How about prior vaccinations, I'm speculating that he already has excess metals in his body that may warrant additional supplements and chelatation. My personal

experience with metals is that they do cause disintegration of calcium throughout the body including loss of enamel. 60% of the enamel grew back on my own teeth over three years after having amalgams removed and supplementing with mg/ca citrate and B vits, but I'm still struggling with several remaining pits. I'm hoping to find a way to get the rest to fill in, but that may be unrealistic.

if the cavity is in the baby teeth why bother with the filling? the tooth will fall out. just make sure she is brushing her teeth every day and not drinking all the soda and juice that the average kid does. "If the world were perfect, it wouldn't be." - Yogi Berra

When I called to see what they would use for the fillings, they told me the silver ones loaded with heavy metals or the white resin ones (which they don't like to use on molars which is where her cavities are). She said that I could PUSH the issue on the white resin and they would do it, but they didn't recommend it and my insurance may chose not to cover it. From what I have read, the white resin fillings aren't bad??? What do you all know about them????

Thank you.

some of the epoxy fillings contain fluoride. Probably preferable to mercury though.

So that was my question to the dentist, why are we filling it if it is a baby tooth? It is in her back molars and they need to last her at least another 6 years before she looses them and gets her 12 year molars. It made sense I guess. I am so upset that she even has cavities. I have never had one and I know I am very fortunate. She unfortunately has teeth like her dad and she is a kid and doesn't brush well when I am not looking. As we all know, we can't watch every move all the time and she likes to take advantage of it. Silly girl.

Ruth,

Elaina's cavities are in her baby teeth that she needs to keep at least 6 more years. I called a dentist today that doesn't use anything harmful but of course isn't covered under my insurance. He is a holistic dentist which I didn't I could find in this area (he is about an hour away). I would love to just go and pick his brain. Maybe just maybe a miracle can happen and my insurance may have a change of heart.

Alan,

Her teeth are baby teeth that she needs for about 6 more years is why they want to fill them. If I remember correctly (she was born with multiple heart defects and we were VERY distraught), she only received the shot in the hospital and that was it. She had a cardiac cath at 7 weeks and the doctor wouldn't do shots because of that right then. Then she had surgery at 3 months and I had done much more reading about vaxing and had decided to wait. My oldest unfortunately, did receive shots up til she was 2 1/2 or 3. Elaina (cavitity kid) is on meds for her heart and was on meds for her kidneys and recently had surgery (and a huge hit to her immune system) with being on antibiotics for what was wrong with her kidneys for 6 months prior to surgery and then a couple of months after surgery. I suspect these things combined didn't help our situation at all. The fact that my husband is a sugar junky doesn't help my plight either when I try my best to keep them away from sugar. I did find someone who does alternate fillings but of course, is not in my insurance plan. I am trying to gather my plan of action right now. I am praying for some kind of miracle that my insurance will have mercy on me and let me go to the holistic dentist......pray for a miracle because we are in bad shape financially and are still paying for testing and surgery on Elaina from last year.....geese.
