SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Health officials in ique are asking more than

2,000 people to get tested for hepatitis B because they had contact with an

infected surgeon.

The doctor worked at University Hospital Centre in the capital of the French

Caribbean island from July 1, 2001, to December 31, 2005.

Health officials say that it is highly unlikely anyone became infected.

Hepatitis B is a virus that attacks the liver and is transmitted through blood

or body fluids.
