In Los Angeles On Saturday June 26, the Hepatitis B Foundation will host its second patient conference on hepatitis B and liver cancer at the Asian Pacific Liver Center at St. Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. The Keynote speaker is Dr. Emmet Keeffe and all of the presentations will be translated into Chinese and Korean. The free conference is scheduled 9:00 am-1:00 pm and registration is requested. Learn more and register » World Hepatitis Day Rally Attracts Hundreds Almost 500 people traveled across the country for the first World Hepatitis Day rally held on May 19 at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC. The rally was organized by the National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable, in partnership with the Hepatitis B Foundation and other member organizations. Amidst multiple chants, speakers-- which included Congressmen Mike Honda, Dent and Bill Cassidy-- fired up the crowd along with patients who introduced themselves as “I am the face of hepatitis.” The bottom line: we CANNOT be silent anymore! A prevalence rate of 3.1% was found in a sample of 1,654 adults in Puerto Rico with 98.3% of participants unaware of their HBV infection. Compared to uninfected women, HBV or HCV-infected women had significantly higher rates of negative outcomes such as low birth weight babies, congenital malformations and perinatal mortality. Thus, careful monitoring of pregnant women with chronic hepatitis infections is warranted.
