hgb was so low to begin with. Hope the colonoscopy turns out ok, not a fun

test to have. Hang in there..

Hi All,

Well, it has now been two weeks since I started treatment. Although I am

only taking two riba instead of 5 due to my hemoglobin...feel like I am

cheating myself, but doc says NO until hemoglobin comes up to at least 10.

I

did not really have time to concentrate on my own aches and pains the first

week, because my 16 year old ended up in the ER with 12 stitches in his

foot---home from school for a week! My 13 year old ended up with a double

ear infection that had blistered--home from school for a day, and husband,

OF

COURSE, was out of town. Now that the family's health is settling, I am

realizing how generally blah I feel. BUT--it could be worse!

I was told on Monday, at the doctors office that because my hemoglobin is

sooo low-- 9, they are afraid there is some kind of internal bleeding going

on. SO... instead of just concentrating on the hep and the liver, I am

scheduled for the ever-fun, ever-anticipated COLONOSCOPY!!! Yeah!!!! I am

sooo excited!. My husband told me that we will probably have to cross the

colon off the list of what I can donate. Already crossed off the list are

my

liver (hep C), heart (artificial heart valve), ears (deaf in one ear),

eyes(legally blind), and gallbladder (already removed). Isn't it ironic

that

I am one of the few people that are WILLING to be an organ donor, and I will

probably have minimal organs that are donatable! We do get a goo laugh out

of it. Suppose if I couldn't see some humor in it all, I would be crying

every day.

Anyway, just thought I would catch you all up on my progress. I am doing

every other day injections. Doc will give me a prescription for a vial of

intron(?) when my usage gets caught up to what the insurance will supply. I

must say that I am totally pleased with my doc and his assistant!

STILL POSITIVE,

Lora

Well, now that I feel like making a fool out of my self, and showing off

my poor grammar & spelling skills.

I tell you all what it was like for me on my year of combo. The first six

months of treatment I was doing 5 million IU of IFN daily with 800 mg of RVI.

the first thing that gave me trouble were my eyes, they would blur badly all

the time, and were so dry I had to stay away from any open flame, I was

afraid they would burst into flame.

I should say that I have been legally blind all of my life, and with my

eyes so blurred I was really in trouble. The next thing was my skin got so

dry I thought if I moved I would crack.

Now I'll tell you, I was born with albinism a lack of pigment in my skin,

and hair, which while on treatment made it all most impossible for me to go

out in the sun, even if I sat to close to a window I could feel the sun

burning me, and of all places to live, I live in the desert in Southern

Calif. If I had to go out in the sun I had to ware long sleeve shirt with a

hood and a hat with sunglasses, I look something like the invisible man, and

felt like the mummy on bad drugs.

I started antidepressants just before treatment, but even with

antidepressants, I still felt really down most of the time, I'm a man so I

never cry, Ho! Ho! but while on treatment I would feel myself start to cry at

al most anything, I would find myself crying at sad commercials on TV,

especially dog food commercials, OK so I'm a little crazy, but those hungry

dogs made me so sad, I'm also a very easy going person, but on treatment I

found myself being short with people around me, to tell the truth if I had

the energy I'd like to slap them, just kidding, but really people could

really get on my nerves.

I could sleep 18 hours a day, and still be tired. One good thing I lost

40 lb. while on treatment, one bad thing after treatment I found almost all

those lb.

The best part of all, I'm 15 months past end of treatment and still

undetectable, everything is back to normal, and I feel better then before I

started treatment.

So to all of you out there on combo, or thinking about starting

treatment,

" I say go for it. "

What's life without a little excitement?

Take care.

So glad that you are happy with your doctor and his assistant that is a very

important thing. Takes some of the stress off of you and we know stress is

not good for you. My husbnd has always had a organ donor card in his wallet

and now like you he has few organs left that he can donate after his death

and we comment on that as you and your husband do. Good luck on the

COLONOSCOPY I know that will not be much fun. Staying positive is the best

medicine of all and you are doing a good job of that. You are in our

prayers. Staying positive ourselves her in old MS.

Dear Lora,

Unless someday they have a 100% cure for HCV you

will not be able to donate ANY organs! The risk of

infecting the donee with HCV is too great.

I'm glad to hear you are doing ok on the

treatment so far. I hope they figure out why your

Hgb. is so low without doing a million tests! Good

luck!

Love to hear your news of still being undetectable. My husband has been on

the treatment for a year now and we are going to do daily dosing the next 2

months that the doctor wants him to stay on the treatment and hoping to get

the same out come as you I wish that for everyone. It has been a bad time

this past year with all the sides and the secondary infection he has of

Porphyria but he says he would still have gone on the treatment no matter

what. Thanks for your news it is inspiring to others.
