Guest guest
I sent this a couple of hours ago, and it's not come through, so I'm sending it again. Sorry if it shows up twice. t First, you can't possibly be exposing other children if their vaccines are working (which ostensibly the Health Department believes). I would not respond, and I would not accept any statement implying any kind of " responsibility. " Second, Michigan state laws includes vaccine exemption for medical, religious, AND philosophical reasons. You should not need to interact with the Health Department further. Send a letter to the school explaining your religious opposition to the vaccines - or your philosophical opposition. For most of my children's activities, I simply delivered a NOTARIZED letter (I had them notarized at my local bank) simply stating: " My child ( ) is not vaccinated for religious reasons. " When my kids went to college, I got more elaborate and composed a letter describing our religious commitment to clean body/clean spirit. I was very technical with this letter. I have not heard boo from either of my two older children's institutions. At one point, a health person at the school dropped me a note saying that if there were a measles outbreak, my daughter would need to come home until quarantine was over. Like I'd want her there anyway. Here is a website for Michigan exemption information. You should be able to get whatever you need from there and from your own competent and non verbose written letter to the school. http://www.vaclib.org/exempt/michigan.htm Remember. The law is on your side. Exercise your legal right to not vaccinate. It is not law that you should assume responsibility for anyone, your child or anyone else's getting a childhood illness for which a vaccine exists; it's not reality either. Would you assume responsibility for someone catching a cold claiming that you'd left the cold on a grocery cart before they used it??? It is an unfortunate fact of life that people catch things from others. It is not your responsibility to explain to anyone that the vaccines do not work and that they cause irreparable harm. It is simply your responsibility to exercise your legal right to protect your child. Keep it simple. Keep it short. Good luck! t On Aug 9, 2010, at 2:46 PM, k wrote: > Recently I submitted a waiver from MOM a non-profit organization that opposes immunization in michigan to my childs school and obviously they disregarded the form and information contained within. I was sent a waiver from the State Health Department of Michigan was states that by signing I agree to being responsible for exposing other children and my child to such and such dieases. I declined to sign b/c I do not agree with that statement. How should I handle this situation any advice would be appreciated. > > Koren > concerned parent > >
