Guest guest
Dear Mark, Yes. While I am somewhat familiar with CCHR, I have not done as much reading or investigation into this group as I hope to eventually do, and not everyone with whom I affiliate knows of CCHR. You are correct in that they (CCHR), are effective along this line.... However, even they have not been able to topple the giant. It will take more than CCHR. We hope that our combined forces will eventually lead to the outcome we desire. Guest guest
CCHR is the anti-psychiatry arm of the Church of Scientology. While they have been very successful in exposing the myths of psychiatry and the dangers of psychiatric medication, any affiliation with this group raises eyebrows and skepticism among people who might otherwise take our cause seriously. Guest guest
Agree on all your contentions. Have been having reservations myself, BUUTTT, we have the petition and it speaks for itself. There is no refutting the documentation there, especially Eli's own admissions as per inside memorandums, etc. that were part of past court discovery findings. If CCHR can get attention on the FACTS in the petition, i.e., reach more people who would see the documentation, it seems wise to use their power. We are so small AND POOR! We have no backing, etc. We do share a common cause and they have been at it a long time - have the connections, the wherewithall and all to get the message out concerning the petition findings. Just my thoughts at this time. Hindsight is 20/20. Right now all we have is everyone trying to make the best judgement with the knowledge at hand. I'm just wondering if the C of S has ever done anything that is illegal or untruthful. THAT would hurt us. Still pondering - think I'll contact them and get their take on everything and just what they have done to get such a bad rap. As to them " raising eyebrows " - that's usually a sign people's eyes are being opened a little wider - whether they like what they see (hear) or not! Guest guest
Collissa: There have beeen PLENTY of scandals surrounding the C of S. I have several Hollywood friends who are members of the church, so they've tried to recruit me over the years. It's just hard to get behind a religion that believes we came from aliens (that's NOT a joke!). Plus the newszines have done NUMEROUS in-depth exposes on the allegations of brainwashing, unlawful imprisonment, torture, money laundering, propaganda, etc. It's all very interesting, and even a bit scary, but I will say that when I was going through my Paxil ordeal, I got a whole lot of very useful information from the CCHR on psych meds, which seemed hard to believe at the time, but which later turned out to be true. So, I do believe that the CCHR does a lot of good; it's just too too too bad that they are an arm of the C of S because when you start digging into that ant's nest, you see a lot of really troubling things. Just my 3 cents. Trisha

Guest guest
Thanks for the info, Trisha. Lord, that does make for a sticky mess. But, many of them have already signed the petition. I s'pose if we aren't officially affiliated with them in any way, that should cut any potential problems (as per credibility on our part) off at the pass. Aliens, huh? I know sometimes I feel like an alien in this wacky world, but definitely DO NOT bear any resemblence to ET! ('Course, some mornings....p-e-rettty scary!) Definitely haven't a clue if what's been dug up against them is all true ('cept the alien bit), but I do know the psychopharm cartel has been at the root of discrediting them. Most lawsuits against the makers of these drugs show time and again the defense's first line of attack is discrediting the plaintiff (they were wacko to begin with, etc., etc., ad nauseum.) As to the C of S, might all be true - but if just some is, we definitely don't need to have to deal with " guilt by association " problems with everything else we're dealing with. Thanks again- Collissa > Collissa: There have beeen PLENTY of scandals surrounding the C of S. Guest guest
Suzy, I think everyone needs to form their own opinion about CCHR. Personally, I respect the stand they take on psychiatry and psychiatric drugs. They are probably doing more than any other organization to combat the falsehoods that are being parlayed to the public at large in regards to the " benefits " of psychiatry. However, I have heard some very negative comments about this organization as well. CCHR was established by the Church of Scientology - which was founded by L Ron Hubbard. There are several books by L Ron Hubbard which you can purchase. Also, you might want to read through the CCHR website: http://www.cchr.org I have been in communication with several folks who are either employed with, or who are volunteers with CCHR. I have found them all to be outstanding people. You do not have to be a member of the Church of Scientology in order to volunteer for the organization. Not sure what my views are on the Scientologists, as I just haven't read enough, but I feel very good about what CCHR is doing. Guest guest
Glitter, I don't know about you, but sometimes I wonder if I did come from some alien source... the more involved I become in this drug war, the more that those who don't have a clue look upon me like I am an alien or something! Certainly, "I'm not normal"... Lucky for me I've found all you other alien creatures so I don't feel so alone here on planet earth! tee hee hee I know for sure that I'll never convert over though... even if it meant having a greater association of alien friends - as I'm quite comfortable with my own 20th century religion. The Avenging Angel Please sign the petiton at http://www.petitiononline.com/lilpro >From: glitterari@... >Reply-SSRI medications >SSRI medications >Subject: Re: Re: CCHR >Date: Thu, 3 Jan 2002 18:32:57 EST > >In a message dated 1/3/02 2:54:09 PM Mountain Standard Time, >israelswarrior@... writes: > > > > Not sure what my views are on the Scientologists, as I just haven't read > > enough, but I feel very good about what CCHR is doing. > > Dawn > > > > They believe that we are descended from aliens. Guest guest
Bruce Wiseman wrote " Psychiatry: the Ultimate Betrayal " . Bruce is the US President of CCHR. A group of guys wrote " Men Behind Hitler " one of them is a German CCHR man. I have read both books and was amazed and disgusted at the data. Pretty eye opening. My favorite book on the subject is " Mad in America " by Whitaker http://www.madinamerica.com/ A historical look at the treatments and history of psychiatry. Mr. Whitaker is a medical journalist. I liked the part where he describes the wonderful Quaker asylums where people could unwind and then return to their lives. Good food and gardening and love and honest Christian care that had amazing results though it took time, not a quick fix. the AMA closed them down by passing laws as the AMA saw it as competition. A travesty and a crime. CCHR detractors say that CCHR wants psychaitry outlawed or completely taken down. They say we are a fringe group with extremist idea's. That is incorrect. CCHR wants " psychiatry to be brought under the law " . Anyone that looks over the actually statistics of psychiatry's " treatments " can see we have a fraud amongst us and that it needs to be cleaned up for the safety of all. Destroying lives for profit is truly evil and cannot be ignored.
