Guest guest
I sent me friend the petition about bogus psych dx's for children and this was his response: Nonsense! Whoever wrote this doesn't know what they are talking about- ADD and ADHD, as all pschological and psychiatric disorders can be found in the same diagnostic manuel as ALL of these same disorders, including bi-polar, depression, etc. and for the most part all have been substantiated scientifically. In so far as ADD/ADHD we can surely prove a person has these neurological disorders without a doubt if the patient or their families desire an MD to do an autopsy- of course this tends to be better done if you'r dead but if scientific proof is your thing- that's where you'll find it. As I work with these disorders (and many others, especially w/children daily) I can assure you that they exist. Neurolgical disorders are fairly easy to diagnosis using proper assessment tools. It is unfortunate that like depression too many unqualified MD's (pediatricians, gynecologists, GP's) are diagnosing, treating and prescribing meds for Psychiatric illness and Mental Disorders. This would be almost like going to a bicycle mechanic to tune up a Ferrari; or better seeing a policeman to treat menopause. It is not the labeling and " drugging " of our kids that is the problem- it is unqualified people treating them and acting as if they know what they are talking about. Trish- don't buy into this crap- you are too intelligent to believe everything you read/hear/see on the internet, etc. If 1 out of 1000 are mistreated, or even 1 of 100 does this mean stop the treatment for the others who are treated properly at are being greatly helped? I hope not. Perhaps some of these parents need to seek professional help themselves; while others may need second opinions.

Guest guest
Glitter, Can you access those files about the man being held against his will? Does your friend know about him? I've been diving into it most of the day today! If you can't, he's given me permission to copy the files to send to the group. Guest guest
Trisha, One of my best friends is a psychologist and I have been sending her printouts for months, particularly studies and info with real documentation from professionals (thought that would appeal to her more- HA!). I saw her a couple of weekends ago and my info has not made a dent in her belief that these drugs help people. She says she sees it every day - she works with underprivileged kids. She feels as long as the drug is prescribed by a psychiatrist and monitored properly, there is little danger as long as the patient receives talk therapy in conjunct. with the antidepressant. In fact, she is on prozac herself. she has been going through a major psychological battle - discovered that her father molested her as a child. Her whole family denies this so she is alienated from her family, a very close family in the past. I don't know if she is having false memories or what the heck is going on. She believes it. My stepniece was just put on Ritalin and I am having the same reaction from my family. My sister is on zoloft; her husband takes xanax. I know you have a similar story with family. What the fork is it with these people? I guess everybody wakes up in their own time. My time is now. And so is yours. I guess all we can do is love them anyway and pray that they wise up before it's too late. I just started reading a book: Manufacturing Victims by Dr. Tana Dineen. It's about what the psychology industry is doing to people. Pretty interesting stuff so far - I've skipped around and read a few passages thru the book and so far, agree with most of what she has to say. Anyone ever hear of this book? xo, > In a message dated 5/3/02 7:10:36 PM Mountain Daylight Time, > stinky72001@y... writes: > > > > Don't mean to insult you by insulting your friend but he has his head > > up his bank account. Guest guest
He's a typical psychologist; thinks the psychiatric community is God. This is exactly what Dr. Dineen says in her book. And more - big business shaped the psychology business (lol, am I surprised!). stinky
Guest guest
I was actually shocked that he said not to believe everything I read on the internet. Doesn't that sound familiar??? well, I have to agree with that. there is much disinformation on the internet too, so we do have to watch for that. But at least the 'truth is out there'. Good luck in trying to find the truth in the other news media.....

I'd be so curious for him to prove something that can't be proved! I always ask for proof to the medical establishment and they can NEVER produce anything. Their pants are on fire! Although they don't disagree with me about antidepressants, they many times roll their eyes or basically argue with me when I try to make a point. They will say that only specialists know what they are doing. I just think they don't want to believe what we know and sometimes it takes a while for all of it to soak into their brains. They are brainwashed, so to speak and they believe that they are helping people and that is probably where they get their selfesteem from, I am not sure. I am sure many of them don't want to think that they may be hurting people.
