As far as aspirin is concerned if you have portal hypertension or cirrhosis then it should be avoided as it promotes bleeding. It has per se no effect on the liver or HCV. I'm having an endoscopy in three weeks or so, just to see if I have varices. I've had trouble swallowing accompanied by pain that seems to be spasms. I don't know much more. You know up close to your neck but in your chest. I have never mentionrd it till I saw what you wrote has just been affecting me that way with swallowing in the last year or so. I have not been allowed aspirin all my life because of blood disorder called ITP. Now, I can not take Acetheminephine (spelling wrong) due to my Hep C.....sometimes I hurt so bad from all the things I take it anyway. I have found one that contains both aspirin and acet...... it is BC powders for body aches and it works, when you are in pain I guess you do not care about anything but getting rid of the pain. I also think what the heck may as well. Stadol comes in a nasal sray and may bypass the liver, since it is absorbed through the mucous membrane. Hormone patches are supposed to be easier on the liver, since they go right into the blood stream and bypass the liver, so maybe something that does not go through the stomach, in a pain reliver. But... with this hep.. you'd be amazed at how the antidepressant has helped me! Well I'm amazed. It has helped me sleep and I'm not as tired every day as I was. I don't seem to ache as much or be as irritable cause I hurt all the time. I was convinced I wasn't depressed, but I knew I was gonna go on treatment, so I took several months to find an antidepressant that worked for me. And when I did, wow, was I amazed how much better I felt on them. You might have him try it just for a bit, see if he doesn't feel better. Celexa is new and not as hard on your gastric system (along with Viox (sp)), or some other anti-inflammatory. I used Lodine occasionally too. Before I started treatment I was hurting everyday.
