They triple checked their roster of patients who may have come in contact with needles used by a former employee. " And all together we've decided that we need to send out about 2,000 more letters. Just to be absolutely certain that we've captured everybody that might be at risk, " says Dr. Rupp, CEO of Mayo Clinic in Florida. Which means, as many as 5,000 patients are at risk of having Hepatitis C. Rupp says the latest group are patients who may have come in contact with former employee, Beumel, at St. Luke's Hospital between 2004 and 2008. Beumel admitted to drugging himself with hospital syringes that were used again on patients. Three people that we know of were infected, one died as a result of the blood disease.
