Guest guest
All foods are processed by the liver. It metabolizes all proteins, fats and carbohydrates, and stores what it necessary. This metabolization includes any drug, herb, or pill taken by mouth. Guest guest
I read that some herbs can be as toxic to the liver as drugs, I don't know if this includes any supplements and I certainly don't claim to be any kind of expert in these issues. I don't take any herbs anymore, although I have in the past, I just never found that they helped that much. I am curious Patty what your current regimine includes and if you are having brain fog free days lately or if you are still on the roller coaster. Guest guest
Patty, Then why did you state in your email that my statement about all supplements are broken down by a major organ was not true, and questioned where I was getting my information???? e > All foods are processed by the liver. Guest guest
It is true that some herbs are toxic. Remember that many Rx drugs are made from plants! (Just refined down to very specific active components). It has never been said that herbal supplements are NOT toxic, but that does not mean that all are. You have to read up and be informed about them. There are many herbal books available, and my recommendation is to research the herbs that you think will help you. Most are not toxic at the dosages recommended on the bottles. The ones that are will be noted. The value of herbs lies in the fact that they are God's gift, and when taken in their natural form, you are getting the whole value of the plant and it synergistic parts, not isolated components that by themselves are dangerous. I have found herbs to be very helpful to me. The secret, as I have stated before, is to be consistent in taking them. You can't take a few here and a few there and for just a few days, and expect to feel a difference. Herbs need consistent usage over a period of about 6 weeks to notice the benefits in most cases. I have been feeling great. I have days when I have some brain fog, but it usually can be traced back to something I ate, or a detoxing therapy that stirs up stuff into my bloodstream. Most recently it was a liver flush that I did that made my head foggy. But it is gone now, and I have been feeling great! I consider myself to be nearly fully healed, but I believe that the healing will only continue as long as I take care of my lifestyle. My regime changes from time to time, and I do take breaks from my herbs and supplements. I don't think that constant use month after month, year after year, is necessarily good, but neither do I believe that completely eschewing vitamin and herbal supplements will do us any good. I take raw garlic as often as I can. It makes me smell, so I have to be aware of my social obligations, but I think raw garlic is one of the best herbs you can use. I take up to 12 garlic cloves a day. Garlic, as I have posted in the archives, is a valuable anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-parasitic herb. During World War II, when Russia ran out of antibiotics to treat its many casualties, they reverted to the original antibiotic: raw garlic was rubbed on the wound. It became known as " Russian Penicillin " . Stoff, MD (Tucson, AZ) said the first part of healing is to put viruses into remission. Many of us have a large viral load, and it would behoove us to follow this advice. Garlic can help do this, as well as Olive Leaf Extract. I take the anti-oxidants: Vit C, Vit E, drink carrot juice, selenium. I take alpha lipoic acid, n-acetyl-cysteine, glycine, taurine for boosting glutathione levels. Also Transfer Factor Plus. I take fish oil caps, and Borage oil for the essential fatty acids. I was taking Udo's oil to get a good balance of the essential fatty acids, but I decided to take a break from the flax oil, due to its possible effects on the thyroid. I am giving the borage oil and fish oil caps a try now. I take acidophilus and eat raw sauerkraut for the beneficial flora. I take digestive enzymes after eating cooked foods, and sometime in between meals for inflammation. I take various herbs for adrenal support and liver support. Mainly fennel, fenugreek, licorice, siberian ginseng, and definitely milk thistle. Also B5 (pantothenic acid) for the adrenals. I take gingko biloba for brain clarity. I take B12 shots. I may have missed something in here, but that is run down of my basic supplements. I don't think it is just the supplements that help, though. I consider the therapies I do to be just as important.
