Hours after he was fired, a disgruntled Baltimore Gas

and Electric Co. employee returned to his suburban

office building Thursday afternoon and fired shots

through the window of his supervisor's office before

apparently taking his own life, police said.

No one else was injured in the shooting. The

46-year-old man, who had worked for BGE for 28 years,

was found dead inside the supervisor's office at the

BGE facility on Parkway Drive in Hanover, near

Baltimore-Washington International Airport. Police

identified him as Bruce Alvin of Mount Airy.

was fired Thursday afternoon and returned to

the building around 5:30 p.m., said Sgt. Urbas,

an Anne Arundel County police spokesman.

He drove around the back of the building, where his

supervisor, Doreen Hartley, 40, has an office with a

window. She saw him get out of his car with what

appeared to be a weapon and ran for safety, warning

other employees, Urbas said.

fired shots through the window of the

supervisor's office, then shot his way inside the

building, Urbas said. He made his way to Hartley's

office, where he was found dead from an apparent

self-inflicted gunshot wound to the upper body.

The man worked as an assistant designer, " which means

he [drew] up plans for new gas and electric business, "

said BGE spokeswoman Foy, who declined to

identify him by name.

About 150 people work in the Hanover office, which

handles BGE's new business, but it's unknown how many

were still at work when the fired employee returned,

Foy said. The office appeared closed today.

Foy could not provide details about why the man was

fired or who fired him.

The state medical examiner's office will determine the

cause and manner of death, Urbas said.

BGE, part of Constellation Energy Group, serves more

than 1 million business and residential electric

customers and more than 600,000 gas customers in

Baltimore City and 10 Central land counties.
