How often you get outside? Interferon (the kind we make on our own)

is downregulated by Vit D3. High levels of interferon, whether its your own,

or

the leftovers of treatment are associated with high levels of depression.

(some interferon production is necessary...but too much is a problem)

Gamma interferon, is also known as protein C. The greek alphabet that is

used in medicine, has a " gamma " as the third letter...it's the little " y "

looking

symbol. (there is no C in the greek alphabet) and is related to fibroblast

activity, which is relevant to hepatitis C.

Outside on a sunny day without your shirt for twenty minutes, and if it isn't

sunny where you live, you can find a tanning salon, and do fifteen minutes

In " low bed " to get the same effect. (start slow if your skin hasnt seen the

sun

in awhile) and don't close it all the way down, leave it up some.

Do not use a lotion..it will accelerate the burn, especially if you have any

fluid retention. (as most of us do with hep.)

Vit D3 supplements are available too, but be sure to read all of the

information

with regard to risk and toxicity with them first!

I am now on my last month of tx. I too have chosen to not share with anyone

except my Dr and my family. At times it has been frustrating doing everyday

things when feeling tired and rundown but I did not want sympathy (just support

from family) and mostly did not want gossip.

For me personally, this approach has been a good coping mechanism as everyone

treats me just the same. So life has more or less been the same with work and

family issues. My family approaches my tx with a sense of humour " such as my

partner asking when my energy was coming back because he is sicking of mowing

the lawn (that was a job that I used to enjoy) " .

I will not deny that sometimes I wish that I could be more open so that I

could gain more understanding and support, but mostly I feel glad that I have to

get up and face another day of going to work and doing those everyday things

with no one being the wiser. The harder chores such as mowing the lawn have

been put on hold, but outsiders are not aware of a difference.

Sunlight is important for all of us, its how we manufacture Vit D.

If you have eliminated excess cholesterol from your diet, but it still seems

to run high...you might just need to get some sun.

Calcium and cholesterol and UV radiation are all involved in the process

of Vit D production. (Vit D is a prohormone)

Hydroxylation in the early stages of manufacture takes place in the liver, and

kidney...so if you have problems with either of those systems, the process

could

certainly be hampered...but I would imagine, it would be more likely due to

the

system simply NOT being used.

It's easy to believe that sun is the " enemy " if you listen to the media, but

when we have had enough light exposure our skin darkens (tans) as a protective

measure, or we get hot, and seek shelter etc...
