Guest guest
Hi everyone. I just wanted to get some thoughts out of my mind (hopefully). I have my liver biopsy tomorrow and I am scheduled to begin treatment (peg intron and ribo) shortly afterwards. In the very beginning, regardless of the nurses scary speech regarding the treatment, I didn't think much of it and was ready to go through the year or so and be part of that 40% chance of beating the virus. However, after signing up to this forum and hearing many ppls stories, i am SCARED OUT OF MY MIND! In one of the emails I read that there is like a 80-90% chance of damaging another healthy organ... getting diabetes...mental impairments...you name it. is it worth it to do this treatment? how do i decide? i have a 7 month old and fear i wont be able to be the mom i want to be... Anyway..thank you for letting me vent a little! I am just so confused and not sure how to make up my mind... it is so frustrating. ~jackie
Guest guest
the biopsies actually present their own risk of trouble, although small...if you happen to have liver cancer there's a chance cells could get loose from the biopsy and then you have metastasis. also, they don't always give as reliable indication of the condition of the liver as the docs say they do, so that people full of fibrosis have been determined to be in great shape just because the biopsies (three the same day in one case, three in a couple weeks in another) didn't happen to pick up on bad pieces....the true condition became apparent during surgery. i think it's plain nuts to chance the ifn/riba with the current odds of success. with vx-950 added with it the odds go way way up and i'd do it ... but it's currently looking like i'm taking care of things without either, and feeling fine too. > Biopsy Tomorrow > > > Hi everyone.
