Dear List Members,

Thank you for allowing me to join. I have five daughters, the oldest is 22 years

old and the youngest is 13 years old have CMT. My oldest daughter has been in a

wheelchair for 5 years now. My youngest has been wearing AFO's for 6 years. She

had to have Achilles' tendon release surgery the summer of 2000. She will

probably require more surgery to straighten her foot. I found this group because

of a group for CMT advertisement on the group web page. After doing a

search I thought this list might offer the most update information. Last May, my

daughters started following a no hydrogenated oils foods diet. I use only

imported olive oil for cooking. They are also eating more fresh fruits and

vegetables. I have increase the amount of meat they eat, including fish once a

week. They have both experience increase strength. My oldest daughter digestion

problems have improved. I can't explain the improvement because of the change in

diet. They have also both noticed more feeling in their feet. The youngest

daughter is able to lift her big toes on both feet now, something she has not

been able to do for two years. My oldest daughter had said that her strength

seemed to run on a 7 day cycle. Day one she was very strong to Day seven really

weak feeling but that has changed since the diet change. My youngest daughter

has found that if she should eat something with the hydrogenated oils in it, the

next day she has a very week day, in which, she is more likely to fall. I have

thought that since I have cooked lowfat most of my children's lives that,

perhaps, they did not get enough fat in their diet. For several years I only

used canola oil. My oldest daughter has discovered that drinking orange juice

daily seems to give her more strength. She has also found that if her stomach

should start bothering her, she is able to straighten it out by drinking a

Sprite, 7-Up and other off brands do not work. We do not have a family history

of CMT. I hope to learn more about CMT through this list. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Judy W
