One of the problems with socialized medicine is the increase in taxes to

cover it. I think tho that America will eventually go that route, or some

sort of makeshift blend of socialized medicine and the current one. I don't

think the docs want to give up their big incomes. sucks I know

alley

Tatezi,

Could your liver doc call some endocrinologist he might know to

see if HE could get you some samples? Just a thought.

Hang in there, and do what you have to do. Keep in mind that being

hypothyroid is going to affect you emotionally too. It will make you

depressed and irritable. Not that you don't have sufficient reason to

be both depressed and irritable, but the hypothyroidism compounds the

problem and makes it all more difficult for you to handle. And yes,

sleep deprivation will just add to all of this! If going to the

county hospital is what you need to do, grit your teeth and go! Get a

friend to go along with you if possible. Besides, if you are wanting

to get into another study you're going to have to have your thyroid

under control or they won't accept you. Don't give up!

Claudine

Tatezi,

Could your liver doc call some endocrinologist he might know to

see if HE could get you some samples? Just a thought.

LOL, Claudine...

You must be behind on messages because that is exactly what my liver guy

did and got me a month's supply. The endocrinologist (glad to know what

a thryroid doctor is called but I'll probably forget as soon as I close

this message) is going to call his rep and see if he can get more

samples to give to my liver guy for me.

Then I found out that the Board of Health in Chicago has some complete

care clinics around the city. I'd checked with three other clinics and

none of them could help me but the last one told me about the Board of

Health clinics. Doctors, any type of required blood work, and

meds....free for the destitute and sliding scale for others. And one of

their clinics is a little over a mile from my apartment. You have to

call the main number and talk to intake before you can go to the clinic,

and I called all afternoon but just kept getting busy signals. I'll

start calling again when the clock rolls around to 9am and won't stop

until I get through. Gee, I thought the only thing the Board of Health

did was inspect restaurants and things like that. I had no clue they

actually dealt with health.

Then Bruce sent a link: http://www.needymeds.com/ that tells how to

have your doctor apply to get you required meds from the drug companies

in 3 month supply quantities. Only the doctor can call and get the forms

so I printed out the pages for synthroid and prozac and wrote my doc a

letter asking him if he would do this for me. Everything is in an

envelope, stamped and ready to go...I'll drop it in the mailbox at the

corner in the morning.

Had I known there could be serious problems as a result of being

hypothyroid long term, I would have kicked myself into action sooner.

But I didn't know so was just living with it. I am so grateful Edie sent

that post and when I read it I realized that was exactly what was

happening with me. Had it not been for everyone here, there is no

telling what could have happened over time if I didn't get a job and

insurance soon.

Thanks for the idea but for a change of pace, I was one step ahead of

you this time. <g> So hopefully I can either get accepted into the drug

company program or get into the Board of Health clinic before I run out

of synthroid...and even doc (he is so wonderful) offered to send me

some.

Thanks, Claudine. Once again everyone here has save my sanity.

Blessings

I'm already good at making SOME doctor's mad. If I add " Practicing

Medicine Without A License " to my long list of " crimes " (you know,

looking up side effects of medicines, bringing in info on HCV or

treatments, etc.) I could really get myself in trouble! I think I

should pass on that one, lol.

To some degree, we already have socialized medicine. Here's the problem, if

socialized medicine is what we want, then we not only have to raise the taxes

to pay the docs, but we have to find the money to educate them. You can't

expect a person to come out of 4 years of college, 4 years of med school, and

a 4 year residency and be hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt and pay

that off with a $50,000.00/year salary. Let's not forget about paying the

nurses, lab techs, rent, equipment, etc., ad nauseum. So it's not as simple

as it sounds.

So much for my lecture on this subject.
