Hi Pamela. I've seen many on Hep C support forums talk about juicing and

how they feel it benefits them. I don't know what they put in their juice, but

I've considered doing it myself but wouldn't know where to begin because 1) I

don't have a juicer, 2) my blender and food processor are shot, and 3) I

wouldn't know what to put in it even if I had those kitchen aids - lol. I grow

a

few vegetables in the summer (small garden with tomatoes, squash, cucumbers,

egg plant, okra, and basil) and I have access to loads of free vegi's in

the summer (everyone has vegi gardens around here, and by the end of the

growing season there are vegi's coming out everyone's ears, and everyone's

trying to

get rid of their vegis!)

Anyhow... below is an excerpt that might help you some. I don't know if it's

the current recommendations or not, but it's what I found on the net.

" Vitamin A is a known hepatotoxin that is available over the counter.

Multiple cases of hepatotoxicity have been documented with the ingestion of

vitamin A

in high dosages, usually more than 100,000 IU per day, and rare cases have

occurred with dosages of approximately 25,000 IU per day. The degree of liver

injury associated with vitamin A depends on the dose. Alcohol potentiates the

hepatotoxicity of this vitamin. Vitamin A can cause steatosis, perisinusoidal

fibrosis, chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis.29 Patients with chronic liver disease

should consume less than 25,000 IU of vitamin A per day. Most multivitamin

preparations contain 4,000 IU of the vitamin, which is well within the safe

range for daily consumption. "

Actually it's no more than 10oz but my homeopath and my doctor both said it's

better to stay around 8oz to be on the safe side. I love carrot juice...the beta

carotene is good for us but the A isn't. I've turned to sweet potatoes for my

beta carotene although I still enjoy my carrot juice.

Actually it's no more than 10oz but my homeopath and my doctor both said it's

better to stay around 8oz to be on the safe side. I love carrot juice...the beta

It's not the amount of juice so much that matters, it's the quantity

of what you put into the juice that matters. The MAXIMUM vit A a

person with liver disease should ever have is 25,000 IU per day, but

less is probably better. ONE avg. size raw carrot has a little over

20,000 IU of A; 1 cup of grated carrot has over 30,000 IU of A. He

really should not have more than one carrot per day. Actually, if it

were me, I wouldn't eat (or drink) even that much, at least not

daily.
