Guest guest
In response to E's post about his droopy lid eye surgery: Interesting about your eye. A little over a year ago, I had lasik eye surgery on both eyes to correct the nearsightedness I've had since age 9 (I'm 43 now). I had a toxic reaction to the dye that was used to mark by corneas. I can see great now, but I had a very rough time of it after the surgery. It took several months before the terrible dryness healed, and had to have all 4 tear ducts plugged for months to keep the moisture in. My surgeon told me it was the worst case of dry eyes she'd ever seen, and has told me since that she had been afraid I could have lost my vision. At the time of my surgery, my CMT was not near as apparent as it is now, and I never really talked about it with my eye surgeon. She learned 3 months later at a medical conference in San Diego, that since CMT affects the nerves in other parts of the body and the nerves were " cut " during my eye surgery, that's most probably the reason I had such a difficult time in healing. Even though I am very pleased with the results of my surgery, if I had known then what I know now, I'm sure I would have just stuck with the contacts and glasses. I wonder if anyone else out there has had any similar problems? -----
