Guest guest
I just sent an email about this. Its called Lordosis or " sway back " . I have this and it is causing grief. There are ways to restore the curve with chiro care and traction. I tried that for a year but it didn't help at all.... So my doc wants to restore surgically. How long have you had this problem? Sent via BlackBerry by AT & T No curves or reverse curves? For my own curiosity, does everyone have a no curve neck or a reverse curve? I do, severe reverse curve. What do you have? Guest guest
Hi ! He is going to plate it. He is going to remove the current plate that offers no resistance and replace it with the newer more flexible plate. He won't know how many levels he will plate exactly until he gets in there. With the curved plates in place, he will be able to create that natural curve that I need. Have you had any previous surgeries? Guest guest
Hi , I just had cervical fusion, so I have two plates which were put in crooked! The Dr. did a hack job. Is your surgery soon? Is there a name for this surgery? > > > > I just sent an email about this. Its called Lordosis or " sway back " . > I have this and it is causing grief. Guest guest
It is a form of scoliosis but not the normal scoliosis that everyone thinks of. Guest guest
Hi , There are 3 main curves in the spine. Two are lordotic or inward curves. One is in the neck at C4-C5-C6. The other in in the lower back. A sway back is too much of a lordotic(inward) curve at the lower back. Flat back is lack of lordotic curve at the lower back. I don't think there is a name for flattening of the lordotic cuve in the neck, just straight or reverse curve, which would be an abnormal outer or kephotic curve of the neck. The third curve is in the upper back and is an outward curve or kephotic curve. Too much kephosis is seen in people with " dowager's hump " or osteoporosis. These curves allow us to have a balanced posture when standing. Loss of these curves or too much accentuation of these curves stresses the spine and associated muscles, causing muscle spasms and faster arthritic degeneration. Guest guest
Hi Annie, Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature from side to side, not like the front to back lordosis and kephosis curves. So in scoliosis there are " C " shaped and " S " shaped curves seen in the spine when looking at the person's back. Lordosis and kephosis are spinal curves seen from the side. Scoliosis usually shows up during growth spurts in young people. If not corrected, the lungs and heart can be compressed. Severe scoliosis requires long, heroic surgeries with rods being installed in the back. Did your brother have surgery for his scoliosis? Guest guest
I also have straight neck and as well, a straight back. No lumbar curve in the lower back and barely any kephotic curve in the upper back. My mother and her sister both seem to have no curve in the lower back so I think it's hereditary. However, the lack of curve in my neck came after a severe whiplash injury. Rochelle
