Guest guest
Hi Dawn... I'm in Chicago....what is known as the windy city. LOL, everyone thinks that it is called that because of the wind that comes off the lake but actually it was dubbed the windy city when it was fighting for the Worlds Fair in the 50s and they were referring to the politicians...it had nothing to do with actual wind. Guest guest
Truthfully, I feel people on the other side of the fence try to be nice when giving us rejection. I totally agree. As I was reading about the job interview I thought...."how do these people know what position you'd best be suited for"? You applied for that specific job and unless they offered you another job, I don't see what right they have to say that you would be better suited for something else. I think it's just a milder way of saying "No". YOU are the one who decides what type of job you'd be best at. And I know you'll find it!!!! Guest guest
Shari, It's a blizzard here! No kidding! Sorry you didn't get that job, but at least you had another opportunity to interview and get feedback. Truthfully, I feel people on the other side of the fence try to be nice when giving us rejection. Usually here it comes in the form of a letter, not a call. I would think if you work well with kids, then your people skills would transfer over to all areas where these skills are needed. If your talents were a consideration and thought you were better suited in schools, didn't that reflect in the resume for their needs vs. the interview process to confirm that. Just my thought. No response necessary. Not everyone who is doing the interview always makes the right choice. Your day will come. I would think HS kids would be a great challenge. Are you looking at craigslist for jobs too? I don't have many who network here, but did help an EX friend find a job on craigslist she would never have seen, no degree, some experience and great money. Guaranteed she would never have known about that job if hadn't been for me, but she did interview and made the impression they were looking for. After she got the job she disappeared from church too--the place we met. Are you looking outside school environments? Good luck on the job hunt. I'm working on ultimately doing my own thing, as I explore what is my passion, even if I take a job in between. I won't be happy till I take control of my own destiny. Glad you were hear to express yourself, but there is something greater waiting for you out there! Hang in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hugs, carolg<shavig@...> wrote: I just needed to come here and get a little encouragement. I was turned down for yet another job. However, this time one of the interviewers actually called me at home, after hours to tell me. She was quite friendly so I just jumped in and told her it had been some time since I was in the job market. I asked her if she could share with me an area where I might improve my interview skills. She sort of laughed and said "you were a great interview". (So how come I didn't get the job?!) We talked for a bit and she went on to say they (there were 3 on the panel) thought I would have been great at the job, but by my experience and personality they thought I would do better in a school setting (this job was at the district office away from students). They seemed to think I work well with the kids. Sooooo, there are two job openings at a high school and I don't know if she has anything to do with the hiring there, but the head of HR was one of my interviewers so maybe he'll remember my name and put in a good word. Those jobs don't close until January 5. Dang! And I had so hoped for a job for Christmas! poop. Okay here's something fun to lighten the mood: What do snowmen eat for breakfast? . . . . . Snowflakes, of course!! Thanks for listening to me whine. Think I'll go back to cleaning up. My sewing machine finally said enough! And won't wind a bobbin so I'm done sewing and on to cleaning! Would rather sew, oh well. Anyone having a Solstice Fire tomorrow? Love to all - Shari
Guest guest
Thanks Carol, but as I have explained before I want a job with a school district and they do not use Craig's list. High school kids are easy to work with. Might be because I can tell when they are b.sing me! Being in AA for almost 20 years has made it quite easy to work with kids and having two young adults in my house is even better. Never cared for little kids and certainly not babies, I had a much better time with my kids when they hit about 10 and it has only gotten better. I think that's part of the reason I get along so well with the high school kids. I can handle their chaos and their drama. I know I'll get one of the two high school jobs. Now I just have to get over the "less than" syndrome that plagues me. This is a high school in a Microsoft type neighborhood, VERY affluent. Most of the kids drive BMWs and brand new Lexus' or Lincoln Navigators to school! The average home price in the area is $750,000!!! That's the AVERAGE! Guess I'll have to buy a new wardrobe for work! Not. The last school I was at was very inner city and I very much enjoyed the challenge of 17 different languages and the challenges of helping without being obvious the kids in the poverty level. I've been watching the weather channel and am seeing your blizzard. Airports closed, roads impassable, guess I'll say thanks for all the rain falling here! Take care and stay warm and indoors - Shari
