Unlicensed practitioners working out of homes or apartments risk spreading hepatitis and other diseases, officials said. The home-based parlors tend to be especially attractive to persons under age 18, who by law cannot be tattooed in a licensed shop without parental permission. Back to Top NEW MEXICO: " New Mexico Hospitals Honored for Immunizations " Associated Press (05.13.10) Several New Mexico hospitals have been honored by the state Department of Health for their efforts to vaccinate newborns against hepatitis B virus. Infants infected with HBV around the time of birth have a 90 percent chance of chronic infection, said health official Diane Jay, and up to 25 percent will die of chronic liver disease as adults. The following hospitals were recognized: Presbyterian and University of New Mexico hospitals in Albuquerque, Miners' Colfax Medical Center in Raton, Los Alamos Medical Center, Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell, Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces and Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in Alamogordo.
