Guest guest
Hi Ron, I think (offically) the jury is still out on whether HCV is responsible for the irritability and depression, and 'brain fog' so many of us suffer from. Personally, I do think it is the HCV, and NOT just knowing I have a chronic disease, which can be depressing in and of itself. I am also a non-responder, by the way. I KNOW way back in my teens and twenties, even with 4 kids and 2 jobs, I never lost my cool like I can do now. It seems like such little things bother me. I look back, and would say it probably started sometime around 1986 or 1987, but then that was also a stressful period for me. I am fairly certain however, that I 'caught' this sometime between 1982 and 1989, so I guess it 'fits'. With you being epileptic I don't really know anything to recommend to you. Are you unable to take SSRI antidepressants? If so, I would try those first, since the only herb I know of that works for depression is St. 's Wort, but it appears that it may interfere with the absorbtion of some medications. I don't know how it would react with Dilantin. If you haven't already talked to your doctor about these psycological problems, I would do so. You could even take in some info on the suspected psycological effects of HCV. Let me know if I can help. (I was recently given Valium for muscle spasms. As a lovely additional benefit I am much calmer too! That is mainly why I can see that I HAVE been overly irritable prior to this.) Guest guest
I know there is no fact to base this on, but I believe the anger and emotional volitility is part of the hep c. Sure we are all angry to have this dragon, but I think it goes deeper than that. Even though they've done so much research on hep c, they have yet to really learn all the aspects of this virus. If it affects one part of the body (and it does attach to the liver), it is only natural that the rest of the body would be out of balance resulting in other problems. And there have been studies conducted on the mental/emotional problems associated with hep c. There was a research study posted to the list and I'll see if it was one that I saved and resend it. Yep...I still have it and will resend it to the group. I'm still curious as to heat and cold intolerance. The only connection I can see is the virus....some people are heat intolerant, some cold intolerant, some have lots of liver damage, some minimal, some are on tx and some are not....but the majority of people on the lists I belong to experience a temperature. Any one have any thoughts on this? Tatezi Just my 2 cents worth.... Guest guest
Tat said <<I'm still curious as to heat and cold intolerance>> Yep. I don't mind being intolerant to the cold. It doesn't get that cold that often in Dallas haha. But heat sensitivity is makin me nuts! Just walking from a parking lot to a building or cinema makes me sick. I hate it. I should be enjoying the sun and the summer, instead I dread stepping outside. Part of me revels in the heat on my skin, another part of me wants to puke. Such dichotomies! hugs alley

Guest guest
Dear Ron, I'm a non-responder, too. I attribute the irritation, brain fog, and a lot of other things to the Hep C. But as Claudine said, the jury is still out. In addition to everything else the Combo made me be instantly post-menopausal, so I do contribute some of the irritability to that since none of us can take ERT. The best advice that I can give you is to keep busy to fight the depression, but not so busy that you get stressed out over it. We are in the throws of a move and I'm about to lose my mind. So far, I haven't killed anybody, yet. And I am trying very hard not to take it out on my husband, since none of this is his fault. I don't know what kind of muscles spasms, etc. you're having, but I have found my chiropractor to be a Godsend. You might want to try that. Good luck and keep us posted, Anne

Guest guest
I HATE COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But HepC has made me hypothryoid. That's one of the reasons I have so much trouble gaining and keeping weight. My friend Nanacy is just the opposite. So there you go. Since Hep C is a blood borne pathogen, it migrates to your bodies weekest link, which is not necessarily your liver. Mine is my cirulatory system. Go figure. LOL, Anne

Guest guest
Hi Anne Yup, I've noticed I'm starting to get ulcer attacks again since I've been diagnosed. My weakest link is my digestive system. And I don't mnd cold...I hate HOT. Like you say, go figure. Thanks for reminding me to get my thyroid tested again!! Of course, the Doc didn't say anything about it....but I know family physicians really don't know a whole lot about HepC. And I'm not bad enuff yet to have to see a specialist....so wow, I am learning a lot here. Hugggs Carol AVansi7465@... wrote: > I HATE COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But HepC has made me hypothryoid. Guest guest
Hi Carol and welcome to our list. I want to thank all of you myself for a few days ago, when I was feeling sorry for myself . That is unneeded emotion to add to everything. You will find here a lot of really caring people and I might say intelligent and knowing their stuff. And, Doc is really a great person. When you feel like all your before friends have abandoned you, you will find them here and will know what your going through. Good Luck and take care, Connie ---------------------------------
