Hi, yes mine does that, been told it's probably arthritis. To me

sounds like celery cracking when I turn my neck. Same as you,

doesn't hurt, just freaks me out sometimes. My neck has 2 levels

fused. Failed in that I'm still in chronic pain, more than before

they operated since the operation and still now 8 years

later. Dave Reading, PA

--- Hello, I haven't been on in a long time due to several reasons,

but I saw this and I remember asking the same question long ago. I

had a fusion at C5-6--C6-7. I asked the NS about it and his response

was that it was the bone dust from the bone scraped from the hip. It

just made sense so I never asked again. Like yours it doesn't hurt

but feels very weird!! Someone else I know was told it was from the

DDD. So, I guess it's one of those questions that we could get a

different answer from every doc???? Please don't take my word for it

of course if you think that you need to have it checked out, but

hopefully it's just another part of this lovely spiney journey!

I wanted to add something else about the cracking noises in the neck.

I think the reason the joint noises started after your fusion surgery

is that you probably had some joint inflamation to begin with and if

you didn't move your neck much for several weeks while the fusion was

beginning to solidify, then the arthritic changes would have

accelerated. I have read that emmobilizing a joint for long periods

of time can cause arthritis because cartilage has poor blood

circulation and needs movement to stay lubricated and healthy.

I really dread having a fusion, which for me is very likely. I

already have bad arthritis up and down my neck. I'm afraid my neck

will be totally unable to move afterwards. I try not to think too

much about the future or I'd really be freaked out.

I really appreciate all the comments.

I might call my doctor on monday and just see what he says too. Also have PT

I will let you know what they say.

Thanks again!

Yes, mine makes noises all the time. Sometimes even others can hear it,

especially if it makes a popping sound. I am 2 years out from my second cervical

fusion. I just found out a month ago that my screws are broken but my surgeon

says it is common and I have had increasing pain since about Jan. of this year

(prompting the x-ray that showed the broken screw) and it seems when it is achy

is when it seems to make more noises, I call it " grisally " noises. Did you heal

good from your second surgery?

Question about noises

I'm about 13-14 weeks out of my second neck fusion.

First one was about 8 years ago...

(which turned out to be a failed fusion that we didnt know about until

the second surgery.) The doctor discovered a broken screw when he went

in to fix the second disk.

My question is this:

Has anyone else here remember experiencing their neck making squishy

crunchy or grindy noises a couple of mths or so after surgery???

It doesnt hurt during these noises, and its not audible to anyone

except me....

but it really creeps me out!

Sometimes its worse than other times, but it is becoming more frequent.

Anyone else experience anything like this?

Thanks,

Liz

Hello Liz,

I'm chiming in here too with a YES! (I'm cervical and lumbar)

I had my cervical fusion done back in Aug. 2000, so almost 8 yrs for

me and the same as Dave came out of it with more pain. Plus, I had

three other levels of herniations that didn't warrent surgery but

once the fusion was done it put more pressure and work load onto

those and then they said after surgery that they did now need to be

fused as well. I declined it, or put it off as long as I could and

am still going without more surgery, just pain, because with these

other discs I am not at risk of paralysis as I was with the first.

I frequently get noises going on in there, it could be the arthritis

or bone spurs or mis-allignment, I don't know. It's so loud at times

that I ask the people around me " Did you hear that?! " Most of the

time the answer is " No " but it does freak me out as well! I sort of

freeze up in the moment expecting a bad, sharp pain to come but

it doesn't...thankfully!! I see my pain doc next week, I'll try and

remember to ask him again what that is.
