Guest guest
Friends, I am providing the following information to any of you who may have time to write to your Senators and Legislators about the Mental Health Parity Bill that is up before Congress. Basically what the bill is trying to push through - is a requirement forcing health insurers to pay for mental health services on a level equal to what they pay out for other illnesses.. For example, many health insurers, especially those supporting HMOs and PPOs, limit to a great extent our access to mental health services. I myself belong to an HMO. Let me give you an example of what this bill would in effect change... Let's say I go to my doctor for a physical. With my HMO plan, if my annual deductible has been met, all I am required to pay is my $15.00 co-payment. My health insurance plan picks up the balance of the "allowable" expense. But, if I need to seek counseling for depression, and I go to a participating mental health specialist, reason would stand that you would only have to pay a $15.00 co-payment for this service. But it does not work this way. Provided my deductible was met, I would have to pay 50% of the office visit, rather than a simple co-payment. The mental health parity bill would change this. If this bill were to pass, then I would only need to pay a $15.00 co-payment to the mental health care specialist. This squares things up... OR SO IT SEEMS...... This is what the advocates of this bill want you to think.... Actually, I believe there are hidden motives behind this bill... very dangerous hidden motives. If you place mental health issues on a level equal to physical illnesses such as cancer, heart disease etc, with the reasoning that mental health problems have a "biological" basis which is no different than cancer arising from a biological disturbance... can you see the implications? They would have the whole world believing that you can treat mental health "diseases" with a pill... They've already done a pretty good job without the addition of this bill... So, for those of you who agree with me, please take some time and email the following representatives, and let them no that you are against this bill. The Avenging Angel ________________________________________________________________________________________________ URGENT -- MORE EMAILS ARE NEEDED NOW Mental Health Parity is still alive. Email the members of Congress below and tell them to vote NO on mental health parity, referencing the bill number, (Senate Bill 543) in your email. We need to heap on the emails to the Senate right now until the Senate adjourns, which could be as soon as the next few days, depending on their work load. If you have already emailed, please do it again. A call or email every day would help to defeat this bill. The following list of Senators should be emailed and be sure to email your own senators if they are not on this list. Call or email your own senators every day until the Senate adjourns. In your email or phone call, state something like this: "I am opposed to mental health parity because it is too much money, waste of money; too much fraud in the psychiatric industry; there's no science behind the mental diagnoses in the DSM (Diagnostic Statistical Manual)." Some email programs will allow you to copy the whole list below and paste it into a Bcc: line on your outgoing email. This way you send the same email to all on this list at the same time. Be sure you email your own two senators if they are not on this list: Thanks for your help!!!!
