Hello Jeni: My name is Mike; I was up to 80mg/paxil up until a few years ago

and I went through the withdrawal from HELL but by gradually lessening it, it

eventually went away but it took awhile for me; everybody's body is different.

I do better on Valium which is helping me more with my anxiety depression. I

would rather be on that than on that other crap. Have heart though, I used to

always feel like I was being pulled down while walking and having panic attacks

(which the crap is supposed to stop but it really doesn't--and I got the most

notorious headaches in the world while on the garbage. I will pray for you. I

understand what you are going through. HUGS, Mike in Dallas

oops-question

omg....clean should be keen. im having a bad day, i need to know if

any of you have felt this.

they increased my mood stabiliser dose (i dont want to be on it) to

my bodys max dosage. And since ive felt like my head is going to

explode out of my head, feel like everything is jumping up and

down, sea sick. dizzy. brain zaps. everytime i move my head i want to

throw up, irritable, i can hardly read what im writing. I had bad

inco-ordination and someone had to escort me to the train station

because i looked like i was seriously drunk, walking from side to

side, walking into parked cars. My fear was walking into a moving

car. wasnt able to pick things up etc. Im slurring my words

sometimes, stuttering the next. Get so irritable and aggressive.

Brain zaps and pins and needles too, basically everything covered in

the umbrella of parethesia. I've spoke to someone else who said he

got like that on 60mg paxil, but they just reduced it. I need to

know if anyone else has felt like this, i know what im on now isnt

an ssri, but it would be just usefull to know if you felt like this,

and if it got less over time or what. I cant really function like

this at all,it kind feels like withdrawal, its only happened since i

raised my dose again, ive been through worse withdrawing from the

ssri's...so if it will get better and go off, i dont mind :)

Thanks in advance to all of you

love ya much

Hello Mike,

Welcome Mike!!! I'm glad you got straightened out. I'm not on any drugs and will

never take the garbage no matter what! I'm dealing with my son and his problems

right now. Anyway, funny thing is that i started experiencing problems with

depression and anxiety a few weeks ago. I started eating better and taking care

of myself and guess what, it went away. Can you believe it? Without one nasty

pill. This should be grand news, don't you think? lololol. Think of what the

medical association could do with this. How many people they could actually cure

instead of destory. And i don't have a lick of education either. lol

Hey, i live in the Dallas area. It's actually DeSoto. What part are you from?

Hey Mike, thanks so much for your reply and thoughts. im not on

paxil, but ive heard its pretty much the same effects as what im

getting now on tegretol,if you're on too much of any drug. ooooh no

i learnt paxil was useless aaages ago. and then i was told i was

just a little child what did i know about anything...lol. Dont i

love people who patronise me? Thats what you get for being 16. 80mg

of paxil huh? funny how they thought 50mg was the highest the docs

should prescribe. lol.

***Basically im on this because if i dont go on it, they'll section

me to hospital for about 6 months minimum. it was bribary!!!***

If it had been paxil or efexor, id have chosen the hell known as

hospital over even just a month on those drugs. uggggggh.

hugs back,

Jeni

Jeni, I'm very concerned for you, as I experienced those symptoms some time

ago...are you familiar with serotonin syndrome and have you communicated to

your doctor what you are going through?

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en & ie=ISO-8859-1 & q=serotonin+syndrome

http://www.drugawareness.org/Archives/Miscellaneous/SSRIreactions.html

Serotonin Syndrome

The serotonin syndrome is a hyperserotonergic state which is a very

dangerous and a potentially fatal side effect of serotonergic enhancing

drugs which can have multiple psychiatric and non-psychiatric symptoms. It

is a condition which has been on the rise since the 1960's when we began

using more and more drugs which directly affect serotonin. This is a toxic

condition which requires heightened clinical awareness in order to prevent,

recognize, and treat the condition promptly. Promptness is vital because, as

we just mentioned, the serotonin syndrome can be fatal and death from this

side effect can come very rapidly. This syndrome is a toxic

hyperserotonergic state whose rate of incidence is unknown, but is on the

rise. The suspected cause of that increase is the introduction of the new

selective serotonergic enhancing agents in clinical practice - the SSRIs.

This disorder, brought on by excessive levels of serotonin, is difficult to

distinguish from the neuroleptic malignant syndrome because the symptoms are

so similar. The neuroleptic malignant syndrome is a serious condition

brought on by the use of the neuroleptic drugs.

The symptoms of the serotonin syndrome are (from The Serotonin Syndrome, AM

J PSYCHIATRY, June 1991):

1. Euphoria

2. Drowsiness

3. Sustained rapid eye movement

4. Overreaction of the reflexes

5. Rapid muscle contraction and relaxation in the ankle causing abnormal

movements of the foot

6. Clumsiness

7. Restlessness

8. Feeling drunk and dizzy

9. Muscle contraction and relaxation in the jaw

10. Sweating

11. Intoxication

12. Muscle twitching

13. Rigidity

14. High body temperature

15. Mental status changes were frequent (including confusion and hypomania -

a " happy drunk " state)

16. Shivering

17. Diarrhea

18. Loss of consciousness and death.

The serotonin syndrome is generally caused by a combination of two or more

drugs, one of which is often a selective serotonergic medication. The drugs

which we know most frequently contribute to this condition are the combining

of MAOIs with Prozac (this should also include the other SSRIs) or other

drugs that have a powerful effect upon serotonin, ie., clomipramine

(Anafranil), trazadone (Deseryl), etc. The combination of lithium with these

selective serotonergic agents has been implicated in enhancing the serotonin

syndrome. The tricyclic antidepressants, lithium, MAOIs, SSRIs, ECT

(electric shock treatment), tryptophan, and the serotonin agonists

(fenfluramine) all enhance serotonin neurotransmission and can contribute to

this syndrome. Anything which will raise the level of serotonin can bring on

this hyperserotonergic condition. The optimal treatment for the serotonin

syndrome is discontinuation of the offending medication or medications,

offer supportive measures, and wait for the symptoms to resolve. If the

offending medication is discontinued, the condition will often resolve on

its own within a 24 hour period. If the medication is not discontinued the

condition can progress rapidly to a more serious state and become fatal. It

should be apparent that the greater the enhancement of serotonin levels, the

greater the chances of producing the serotonin syndrome. Therefore it is

recommended that Zoloft, Prozac, Paxil, Luvox, Serzone, etc. not be used

concurrently with each other or any other serotonergic drugs and that these

serious adverse reactions should be expected with these combinations

(Callahan, 1993). [PROZAC: PANACEA OR PANDORA?, p. 88.]
