Hi Winnie,

I have enough credits. I was told I would get $780

something if approved. The Dr wrote me a script for

the Vicoprofen but it has no generic I was told and is

to expensive. When I had insurance I had a pain

management Dr who had me on oxy codone and aqua

therapy to do low impact exercise for muscles and

joints. When I was originally given the Hep C at the

burn unit I built up a high tolerance to pain killers.

I was given something every 2 hours it alternated

between Percocet and Morphine shots and was

continually increased, I was there appr. 3 months then

at a friends for 3 more months with 3 visiting nurses

a day to change bandages, and heavy pain killers then

too. I received the Morphine shots before bandage

changes and it got where it did not even work even

when amount was increased.

I would like the copy of the letter very much and

thank you for offering. Yes, the system sucks BIG

time, totally......Smile, Take Care, Connie

Yes, Vicoprofen is very expensive and thank goodness for my insurance

coverage - we pay $15.00 for 100 of them. Wish everyone out there had

insurance to help them through this. I read the input from Claudine about

the Vicoprofen and the Tylenol. I know everyone has had different

experiences with medications and doctors but our doctors are still telling us

to stay away from Tylenol. Vioxx is just as bad for your liver and very

expensive also but we have to find something to take to make it through the

treatment and the pain it causes with headaches and the joint and muscle

pain. Hopefully you will be able to find something to help you that is

reasonably priced. I have the letters sitting here and will copy them at

work tomorrow. I have had several other requests for them and we are very

glad to share them and help others. Send me your home address to

rlwinne@... and I will get them right out to you. I am hoping you will

get a surprise and not have to wait as long as they are saying for your

hearing date I know how much that extra money has helped us catch up and keep

our heads above water. It should help you out beings you have the credits

and since you don't have insurance you should also be approved for the

Medicaid which should help you with the medication and lab work you need to

have. The SS offices make it so hard on you so that you will give up trying

to get it and you can't because that is what they want and many many people

do give up. We try to keep smiling and stay positive - we can do this

together. Hang in there.

One other thing the Vicoprofen has never caused an increase in my husbands

LFTs in his blood work or caused him any bleeding problems but he is just one

case and many others may have had those reactions to it - you just never know

we are all different in how we react to medications and the sides from the

interferone treatments. Maybe when you are in remission you are able to take

different medications then when you aren't to I just don't have the answers

and never will. Hang in there.

Connie, that drug has ibuprofen in it, and you

shouldn't be taking that anyway! Besides all the info

that indicates that it can cause elevations in your

LFTs, it can also cause bleeding problems, like

aspirin does, and you really don't need that! You

need to stay away from all those NSAIDs! Ask the doc

for generic Vicodin. That DOES come in generic, that

is how I get it so I know. It is hydrocodone, plus

acetaminophen. If he starts on the 'you shouldn't

take tylenol' stuff take him copies of some of the

studies, or comments from hepatologists, that

acetaminophen is the SAFEST thing to take. I just got

into a " debate " with my new PCP over this, just like I

have with all my other PCP's, and I just got my GI to

send him a note saying yes, it's ok for me to take

tylenol. It really gets aggravating, I haven't ever

had a PCP this wasn't a battle with, but all three of

the GI's I've had over the years have always said to

stick with Tylenol.
