Dear Wyld,

 

I once taught the famous writer and poet Wilde-- he was put in jail for

his homosexuality-- centuries ago-- I am 60 been divorced over 17 years and live

on 7 acres in the wooded deeps of " Florida " a term that commentates that part of

the state that has not been touched by concrete theme companies, jungles of

T-shirts, tourism or Disney--once it was all about Miami and now if you can get

to where I am you would be surprised to find that this does not seem to be the

Florida yo see in magazines, the picturesque l;ads-cape of beaches, sunsets and

honeymooners-- I live where the mosquito's are relevant to how many blood

sucking they an do for there is no chemical sprays going on here- no city curbs,

no garbage trucks or  obnoxious gated subdivisions promising you dreams of

golden retirement-- where gulf carts cart you to green's-bars where the high

noon liquor flows and the average age is over 80- Alas,no

I am self exiled and isolated and use this geographical paradisio for my

backdrop.

No gulf courses here or serpentine lines of cotton candied kids and their

parents wishing for cold beers and the TV-comfort of their AC in

their manufactured homes-- somewhere along the way of America it got lost in

itself.

I woke up to shocking news this morning. My cousin's 16 year old son,

Ian died of the swine flu. He was a strong, healthy 16 year old. I

had just talked to him last night via email about playing the drums.

He was bummed because he couldn't play this week because he was sick.

In the past 3 years his father, my cousin has lost his sister at age

50 to some rare disease that turns your organs into stone, his

Father, and then 2 weeks later his brother to melanoma. I'm worried

about him and my aunt. They are going to go off the deep end.

I tried to get a regular seasonal flu shot this week. In fact I've

tried for the past two weeks. No one has them available. The local

Sam's club had what was a very limited supply this morning. They ran

out in 10-15 minutes and throngs were turned away.

Every day we are warned on the TV, radio, net, newspapers of the

coming pandemic and we better get our flu shot. Yet there are none to

be had. Because of some screw up at the lab they had to destroy a

large batch of seasonal flu vaccine. And the manufacturing of the

H1N1 is going much slower than they think.

This is coming from the same government that wants to take over the

health care industry. They feel they can do it better than the free

market. Yet the swine flu and seasonal flu shots are coordinated by

the CDC, the Center for Disease Control. If they can't get this

right, and they have seen it coming for at least 2 years, how can

they take over the whole health care industry?
