No way!!!! I can move now!! Also, without surgery I could have caused serious

damage to my spinal cord that could have led to paralysis.... I think all of us

have different pain issues even if we had the same surgery. I can live with the

pain I have now. I still cry and get depressed sometimes when I can't clean my

house or go on roller coasters anymore but I'm healthy and I'm not bed ridden

and I have to thank god for that....

did your neck get that bad? I think i was born with mine.

Yes! Genetics!!! I was born with no curve in my neck... Its straight as a board

where it should curve at the base of your skull. Nothing I did could have

prevented it.. So the doctors say....

I think it runs in the family because I have two other cousins with the same

problem. They both had the surgery and are doing wonderful. I am the only one

still suffering!!!

Really??? thats interesting. I have a severe reverse curve. and i

think I was born with it. Wanna hear something funny? there is some

question of where i came from? I may be a test tube kid? or my

father may have been a dentist.(this is news to me) but i imagine if

I WERE a test tube infertilization. I picture someone picking me up

out of the peach tree dish, with a pair of tweezers, and SQUISHING my

neck GENE!!! so I have a crooked neck!

For me that answer is like Frost's poem " The road not taken " how can

I know what I would have been like without it..Things hurt now but maybe the

pain would have been worse without it???

I dont regret my neck surgery at all!

I am VERY grateful that I found a spine surgeon that I think is awesome!

He is the only doctor that I have met and REALLY trust.

My life had become unbearable before my last surgery. I tried to ignore the

symptoms for a long time. I suffered for approx 5 years before I finally broke

down and made an appt. to get things seen about. I had missed family

gatherings...even missed Christmas get togethers ect...

due to headaches and dizziness that were so bad that it kept me from being able

to

'think clearly!' (literally!) I stayed in bed as much as possible.

When I FINALLY broke down and went to get it all seen about...

turned out that I had spinal stenosis with myelopthy. Which explained why I had

become so clumsy! It had affected my walking and I was constantly dropping

things.

Anyway, I had surgery to fuse the disc but while the dr was in surgery he

realized that the previous surgery from 7 years back had hardware failure (the

screw was broken in half)

SO he corrected THAT TOO while he was in there including removing bone spurs

around the remaining discs.

I love my surgeon. He is great. Very honest and down to earth.

And I would say that I am 90% better since I had this last surgery. The only

reason I dont say 100% is because my neck muscles get tired pretty quick and it

aches occassionally when I've gone without enough sleep or have had a busy day.

Those are things to be expected though of course.

Anyway sorry this is so long but NO I dont regret it at all!

Now only if my low back was better! lol

I have major double curve scoliosis which is another different can of worms..lol

In hindsight I do regret my cervical fusion. But at the time looking

at the imaging and the explanation from the neurosurgeon it made

great sense that it would cure my pain. In fact it increased my pain

and 8 years later, I'm still in pain, despite having sought all

avenues to fix it. So know what I know now yes I do regret it. Dave
