Hi Willem....

I have read that there are some rare cases of thyroids coming back after

tx, but for the most generally they don't.

How about anyone here....if you went hypothyroid during treatment, did

your thyroid resume working after you stopped tx? Mine sure didn't?

Claudine once posted some articles about this, but I no longer have

them...when I tried upgrading Netscape once and didn't like it, my saved

mail which had converted to the newer version could not be read by the

older version I reverted too. If she no longer has those articles I can

always upgrade again since I archived all those files on a CD and could

find them for you.

Willem, someone on one of my graphics lists from Holland signs her

messages with the word 'liefs'...what does that mean?

Blessings

Yes- mine went back to normal after stopping treatment. It and the RBC

were the first things to normalize. Other problems took much longer.

My thyroid didn't get extremely out of range while on treatment, my TSH got

to 6 and I felt really bad, but it came down and my last TSH a few months

ago was 3, but I still have to keep an eye on it (since I'm on interferon

again).

,

Sometimes during treatment the interferon will cause the thyroid

to malfunction, and when interferon is stopped it's function will

gradually return to normal. I think maybe it's a genetic type of

thing. In my case, I have a strong family history of autoimmune

disorders, so when my thyroid failed during treatment it was

permanent. It would have probably happened anyway, I only needed

something to trigger it into action. In fact, my thyroid function

tests were not quite normal BEFORE treatment. It has continued to

slowly get worse in the 3 years since I stopped treatment and my

dosing of medications has had to be increased. But maybe in those who

don't have the genes responsible for autoimmunity there is a better

chance of it being temporary. For whatever reason, in some lucky few

the thyroid will return to normal when treatment is stopped.

I'm amazed that no one was monitoring your thyroid. It is a known side

of treatment and most doctors do a baseline before starting treatment

and run a thyroid test at least once every 6 months.

Hi ,

If you think YOUR doc doesn't like what you get off the internet,

you should have seen my grandmother's doctor's face when I showed him

the printout of all the prescribing information on a blood pressure

medication he had prescribed for my grandmother!!! Right there under

" WARNINGS " it stated it was NOT to be given to anyone with low sodium

levels - and hers have been low for 3 months at least! He is not LOL

with me either!
