This is correct, Caren.

The confusion comes from the fact that there are several measurements for the thyroid. What you stated is true for the TSH test measurement. Also, lab values can vary somewhat from lab to lab. Keeping that in mind, here are the different tests, and a GENERAL value for each:

TSH test (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone/Serum thyrotropin).

Under .4 can indicate possible hyperthyroidism. Over 6 is considered indicative of hypothyroidism.

Then there is the Total T4/Serum thyroxine. Less than 4.5 can be indicative of an underfunctioning thyroid, while over 12.5 can indicate hyperthyroidism. Low T4 with low TSH can sometimes indicate a pituitary problem.

Free T4/Free Thyroxine-FT4 is yet another measurement. Less than 0.7 is considered indicative of possible hypothyroidism. (This was the test I had.)

T3/Serum triiodothyronine is one more measurement. Less than 80 can indicate hypothyroidism.

I thought if your TSH blood test comes back low then your Hyper and if the TSH comes back high than you Hypo. I read the if the TSH comes back on the blood test low that your producing to much thyroid hormone and the other hormones that are all linked together somehow by the thyroid and producing enough.

It is impossible to find a good doctor. My ObGyn says my Thyroid is fine, my MD says it is fine. I have been to 4 doctors that say my Thyroid is fine and they won't run anymore tests. I feel like I have no hope. I don't know what to do now. I have heard many times to just by people and homopathics that is in low.

Caren,

Then I would just go about supporting the thyroid in natural ways. These won't harm you, and you may find some relief. Also, there may be other factors involved here than just the thyroid, such as liver sluggishness that would affect your utilization of the hormone produced. You may want to focus on liver support instead.

An overall program will help you...what are you doing for therapies at the moment?

What kind of symptoms are you still having?

My head is foggy, anxiety and lots of fatique. I used to be able to walk now I hardly have any energy. I give myself B12 shots and it seems like they don't work. I haven't tryed any detox yet. I don't know where to start. I am afraid of losing weight and I don't want to lose weight. I know I will gain the weight back but it justs scares me. I am taking vitamins, Tranfer Factor, and juicing carrots and wheatgrass. It seems like I feel worse than before. My periods are just spotting. I spot for 3-5 days then stop then start again 7-10 days later. When I go out in public I feel like I am in dreamland. I feel like a zombie.

Todd: my tsh was high which flags an underactive thyroid. This is a common

effect of CR. Do you have any bad symptoms? This is a debatable point (an

abnormal thyroid reading) and not conclusive like low WBC and other readings

but I am not worrying about it because some others have it too. Archive the

main list for the discussion on thyroid readings.

Francesca,

Do you have any references I can get about low TSH as a side

effect of CRONing? My wife (who has followed the CRON diet same time I

have) recently had some blood work done and had a high TSH indicating

hypothyroidism as well a low blood suagr (50). She has no symptoms of a

thyroid problem. She's in the medical field and is going to want something

to read up on it.

Francesca,

Sorry, meant to say HIGH TSH, not low. My wife had a high TSH

result on her test.

e--

Sounds as if you may have some problems converting T3--glad the

Armour does it for you--I'm taking an Armour generic now and it works just great too--I recognize the energy level.

There seems to be a diuretic effect with Armour--anyone with whom

I've spoken has intially dropped about 10 lbs pretty quickly which would

indicate water weight. I think it's safe to say you can probably count on that--

you'll have to work at those last ten though. I finally got back to a 6 after

12 years.
