I have to agree with Kat. I searched for a different dr. after

having only an orthopedist since childhood, who did 2 surgeries and

prescribed an antique brace that never worked for me. When I found

my physiatrist, he said he wished he'd gotten to me before I had the

surgeries, that maybe they wouldn't have been necessary.

I am glad your neuro knows CMT and would sure like to know what his

take on that is. Recovery from surgery is difficult. You have your

disease under management and sound happy. My neuro and physiatrist

shake their heads when I tell them I fall sometimes - they're worried

something more serious might happen to me. The orthopedist may keep

you standing for a while, but you are right, at what cost? And CMT

is progressive anyway, slowly.

Let us know what happens, OK?

WOW!

I feel really a lot better with just the three of you answering me back in

such short time. You are proof of what my therapist tells me that I should

do. He says that what I do is try to please everyone but me. You all took

the path of pleasing me. I am happy with my cart I get around just fine. I

even LOL when I speed around those in the mall. My own form of fun I

guess. But even if I was to be up and mobile again, the vision in my head

is one that includes increased pain, slow methodical movements, one where I

can't enjoy the surroundings, but I am moving on my own two feet. So which

is better? Wind through my hair! I just can't see the benefit of surgery,

at least not now. and I guess I was a little bit afraid to say it, cause I

was the only one who was on my side. Now that I know it doesn't sound crazy

to not mind to be in the cart. I am fine with things.

boy I love you guys....Thanks so much of bunches of loves....

Colette,

I haven't been very active on the CMT boards lately but I couldn't

help but respond to your post.

When I first read your initial post on your history with knee

problems and surgery, my gut feeling was why continue to go through

that torture? There comes a point where we make choices about how we

can LIVE a full productive life on our own terms, not muddle through

on someone else's terms.

If a mobility aid like a cart or wheelchair frees you up to live life

to it's fullest, then I have one thing to say - You go girl! Better

to wheel through life with a huge smile on your face than struggle in

pain to stay on your feet. Your body knows best - listen to it and

listen to your heart.

Hi Collette!

I'm new to the CMT Board, I tried to send a message yesterday but I

was not sure what happened, anyway I share Ruths feelings on surgery

If you are happy with your cart you go girl! Dan (My Husband) has

had many feet and ankle surgeries. The Doctors would like to do one

more but one of our doctors mentioned CMT bones don't always mend as

well as " normal " (sorry I couldn't think of a better term) bones. We

decided that surgery was not in Dan's best interest. Dan does not

have a cart yet but we are looking into it. Cost is a factor for us.

Keep the wind running through your hair!! Terri
